The Wall

Walking past the row of Shophouses along Tanjong Pagar Road, one could easily miss the newest kid on the block, The Wall Sg occupying a narrow nondescript unit nestled between eateries. The Wall Sg is Singapore’s first Whisky centric bar. Owned and funded by investors who have access to some of the world’s rarest whiskies, this small cosy space holds a staggering collection of whiskies and depending on how much you are willing to pay, there is always something for everyone.

The Wall (Boon)-8
As a whisky drinker, I am pretty content with the available choices and the price points of course. Else, there are always the amazing cocktails made by former chief mixologist of Jekyll & Hyde, Jeremie Tan.
The Wall (Boon)-11
“Pluck Me Down” a concoction of Nigori Sake, Yuzu liqueur, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup was an easy inviting drink.
The Wall (Boon)-7
I picked up and could not stop munching on both the Miso Nachos ($8) and Fugu Mirin Bushi with Spicy Mayonnaise ($25) which are Japanese Izakaya fares specially designed for alcohol.
The Wall (Boon)-14
Others who prefer something savoury or having the bit of that acquired taste could try the “Hangover Bloody Mary”, a Tiger’s Eye whisky based cocktail of cherry tomatoes thyme, Bovril, Caparno Antica and fresh orange juice. Only 5 of this is available each day, using the best and limited cherry tomatoes.
The Wall (Boon)-9
The Wall is also the sole outlet in Singapore to get your hands on the Tiger’s Eye whisky. Three Whisky Flights ($37~$113) are available and we had the entry level, East to West Whisky Flight ($37). It comprises of Auchentoshan Three Wood from Scotland, Les Moissons from France (replacing the usual Mackmyra), Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve from Japan and Taiwanese Kavalan Single Malt. I got to sample each of this, each with their unique profiles. Flights are meant to be enjoyed as a collective symphony, so I not going to pick a favourite here. And considering how they are served on fancy glasses I thought this was a really good deal.
The Wall (Boon)-13
I cannot think of anything better than Sumiyakis (like smoked grilled meat) to go with my whisky. Topping up a mere $12, I received a Quattro set of Tebasaki, Kashiwa Chicken Thigh, Tsukune and Negima. The Sumiyakis were all hot, juicy and crispy at the right spots. The Sumiyakis here, while might not be the best in town, is impressive for its quality considering the limited space they are working on.
