Soi Thai Soi Nice – Affordable Thai Food In Alexandra Central

Nothing delights me more than having some spicy kicks in my food. Recently, we had dinner at a relatively nice Thai restaurant, Soi Thai Soi Nice, in Alexandra Central level 2.

Our course began with the Kho Moo Yang (Grilled Pork Neck, $9.80), which was a tasty starter. The pork was firm and had a good play of sweet and salty taste. It was well complemented with the spicy sauce and a bowl of plain white rice.

Next up, we had the recommended Kung Chuchee (Curry Prawns, $15.80). I loved the light and fragrant coconut taste in the curry, which has a tinge of lingering natural sweetness. The prawns were relatively fresh, tender, and delicious on their own.

The Hor Mok Ma Praw Talay (Coconut Seafood Otah, $12.80) was another recommendation from the staff. However, I felt that the coconut taste was slightly too overpowering for the dish.

The Yum Khai Dao (Fried Egg Salad, $6.80) was the perfect dish to satisfy my cravings. And it certainly did not disappoint, I enjoyed the crispy egg and the special sauce nailed it. I devoured half the dish all by myself.

We have also tried the Moo Sam Chan Tord (Deep Fried Pork Belly, $9.80), which was good. If you are a lover of pork, don’t give this dish a miss. The meat went in harmony with the special sauce. Take a bite of the meat together with a slice of lettuce or cucumber to add a refreshing texture contrast to the flavour profile of the dish.

The Royal Thai Hotpot (Big, $68.80) was comprised of crayfish, tiger prawns and roasted pork submerged in a classic home-made Tom Yam broth and was good for 4 pax. Even though we ordered the mild level of spiciness, the dish was considerably spicy. So for people who can’t take spice, beware! Although it is a must try for any first time diners to Soi Thai Soi Nice, I would prefer the broth has lesser coconut milk and to be a bit more salty.

With some room left in our stomach, we decided to go for another egg dish, Kai Jiao Cha Om (Fried Omelette with Thai herb Cha Om, $7.80). As a hardcore fan of egg dishes, this was another treat for me. The omelette was fluffy, light and satisfying.

To complete our hearty meal, we ordered the Kao Niao I-Team (Sticky Rice with Coconut Ice Cream, $5.80) for dessert. The dish usually came with mango, but the chef recommended that we get their in-house cream topped with corn chips, brown sugar sauce and coconut powder instead. Needless to say, I was swept off my feet by the dessert. The soft sticky rice and ice-cream were delicious, a perfect way to end the night! Some of my favourites were the Grilled Pork Neck, the egg dishes, and the sticky rice ice cream dessert. We left the restaurant as happy diners, and will definitely be back again for more.
