Kawaii Deco Sushi Workshop by Little Miss Bento

Although I know how to cook a dish or two, making kawaii (cute in Japanese) stuff is never my forte. Earlier in the year, I have my first try on making cute bento (lunchbox in Japanese) when I attended Shirley’s bento making workshop. Last week, I finally had a chance to hands on to do some kawaii sushi. It was a media preview for Shirley aka Little Miss Bento‘s second book, Kawaii Deco Sushi!

The Kawaii Sushi Making Workshop was held at Vivo City inside Candylicious. It was a baking studio fitted with premium kitchen appliances from Miele. As it is at the back of the store, it provides a more private setting.
I arrived earlier for the event to give Shirley some help and support. But I guess I ended up being the paparazzi instead. Shirley was really a hands on person.

Prior to the start of the event, she was preparing the ingredients that we were about to use and distributing them to each table! Look at the tray of egg rolls, she spent 2.5hrs to prepare it for the event. I was very inspired by her dedication to this hobby of hers. She is a typical example of working hard and giving her best to what she enjoys doing. *respect*

Besides Shirley, the organizers and the sponsors of the event were also hard at work. They arrived earlier to set up tables of refreshments for the guests of the event.
As the sun sets, fellow bloggers started to stream in. It was a heartwarming scene to see fellow bloggers coming together to support Shirley and to learn how to make kawaii deco sushi. It was also the time where people gather, catch up and take pictures.
As the guests arrived, Shirley started to go through step by step the making of deco sushi.
It was a fun filled event where there was lots of laughter and joy amidst learning to make deco sushi. The sakura flower sushi was made by Big Roy and Hazel.
Tada~~ These are made by yours truly. This is my first time making my own sushi and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I would say that Shirley really gave very simple yet precise instructions to follow. So if you are interested to make your own deco sushi, do check out her new book, Kawaii Deco Sushi.
This book is currently available at all major bookstores in Singapore including Kinokuniya Singapore, Popular, Times bookstores! With illustrated step-by-step instructions, you can make deco sushi too. For more information on her book launch events, do check out her website for more details.
Thanks to the sponsors of the event, I have acquired a new skill (deco sushi making) and I can also start my sushi making with the items in the goodies bag. Can’t wait to try out some of the recipe in the book!
