Treasures Yi Dian Xin 一点心

If there are 2 kinds of chinese food that I can eat everyday, that will be the dim sum and the chinese double boiled soup. Anything soupy also tastes good and comforting isn’t it. Hence, when I heard that the “Treasures Yi Dian Xin” outlet has opened at the Paragon Orchard in late April 2016, I was excited and looking forward to try the food there. During a weekday afternoon when I was there, I was quite surprised to see a queue snaking outside the restaurant as most of the restaurants around paragon were rather quiet. Is this a sign of good food awaiting for me? Let’s check it out!

The first dish that we tried is the Marinated Duck Tongue in Sichuan Style (四川麻辣鸭舌, $9). This is one of the dish that you either like it or hate it. One of my dining partner was rather squirmy about the idea of eating duck tongue while I enjoyed the chewy texture which is akin to a well cooked squid. The sichuan marinate added a spicy punch to this delicious dish which I would recommend any spicy food lovers to try!

Raved by many for this Crispy Roast Pork (脆皮青靚烧肉, $10) but I have my reservation on this as I am not a huge fan of pork dishes. For most of the time the smell of the pork put me off. However, the skin of this roasted pork is to die for, well executed with that lovely crispiness that I can literally hear it crackles with each bite! Yes yes, the proportion of the fats and the meat is also just right for you to enjoy the roasted pork without getting too jelat.

Next up, we had the Homemade Roast Duck (蜜饯烧鸭 , $15) which is slightly different from the roast duck we have at most of the places. Think of Dian Xiao Er and its signature herbal duck, the roast duck here has a similar herbal marinate but with leaner meat! I love roast duck but hate the fattiness that some of the roast ducks have. So happy that Treasures Yi Dian Xin has came out with this healthier version!

For me, Steamed Diced Mushroom Dumpling (雜菌如意, $4.80/ 3pcs) is the live live must order dish for any mushroom lovers. It has the dumpling skin akin to crystal dumpling but with lotsa mushroom! With each bite, it is filled with the delight of a mouthful of mushroom. Lovely!

My oh my, these two dim sums are so instagram worthy. The moment the Deep Fried Porcupine Bun with Red Bean Paste (箭猪豆沙包, $4/ 2pcs) and Steamed Salted-Egg Black Custard Bun (黑金流沙包办, $3.60/ 3pcs) were sent to the table, you can heard the girls going gaga over these. Thanks goodness, they tasted as good as they looked.

For rice roll aka vermicelli roll lovers, there are 10 different kinds to choose from. But the restaurant’s signature is the Steamed Crispy Rice Roll with Shrimp (金绸脆皮虾肠粉, $7). It is an interesting twist with shrimp fillings in the middle. I enjoyed the different textural bites that this dish has given me. Similar to zha liang (炸兩) yet different different!

People always say that Hong Kong noodles tasted different as compared to the the local ones. Well the ones served here are good as well. Homemade with lower alkaline taste and I said it is best to order the Treasures Signature Noodles with Pig’s Shank, Beef Tendon, Wanton and Shrimp Dumpling (四宝招牌面, $10) which has a little of everything!

Besides noodles, there are 13 congees served here as well. If you like your congee to be smooth and flavoursome. Well, you might want to order one from the selection.

There is always tummy for desserts! Besides Mango Custard Mochi (芒果奶皇软磁, $3.60/ 2pcs) & Coconut Jelly (香滑椰汁糕, $2.40), we had the highly recommended Steamed “Malay” Sponge Cake (香滑马来糕,$3.80). I can see why is it so. Unlike the usual malay sponge cake, this is really very soft and fluffy! I am totally in love with this that any resistance against it is totally futile!
P.S: This picture of the malay sponge cake was taken after we have sliced the cake for easy sharing!

Overall, this is a good alternative if you want to have some cheap and adorable dim sum in town. Good news for the east sider, a new outlet is set to be opened this month at Marine Parade!
