The girlfriend is one huge fan of pastas and italian food and through Chope we have found an eatery, Pastaria Abate, along Craig Road that offers handmade pastas at a price tag that were easy to the pocket. Hence, we made our way down from our office which was only 10 minutes away!
The appetisers were priced at an average of $6.80 to $8.80 with several items such as the Antipas 1/2 board at $12.80 and full board at $20. Fried mozzarella with Strawberry sauce was one of the more popular item from this section of the menu. We liked how stretchy the cheese was with the golden shell provided a contrasting texture. At $6.80 per serving, we have no complains but would prefer to have it without the sauce.
The girlfriend liked the fried calamari ($8.80) which was perfectly cooked. With a garlicky note and a reasonable serving, we thought it would be good to go with some beer!!!
The Portobello Fries ($8.80) was one of my favourite starter. It was such a brilliant idea to slice the mushrooms and deep fried them till crispy. I kid you not that this is dangerously addictive for any mushroom lover out there.
For mains, we ordered the Chef’s Favourite, Aglio Olio with Tiger Prawns ($15.80 nett) and Basil Pesto ($14.80 nett). While the girlfriend enjoyed the bites of garlic found in every mouthful of the aglio olio spaghetti, I like how there were several options of handmade pasta for me to choose from. Oh yes, the servings were considered generous and we ended up feeling full as we walked out of Pastaria Abate.
Although Pastaria Abate was self service eatery, the price was considered reasonable. But do remember to be slightly more patient while waiting for your food to be served as the handmade pasta might require more time to cook. If you are looking for a casual Italian dining restaurant in the CBD without hurting the wallet, do consider Pastaria Abate. I thought for the location of the eatery and the price tag, this is at least worth a try.
