When I first received the invite to the opening of Old Chang Kee’s flagship store, I was rather surprised by the location chosen as I was expecting it to be maybe in town. After some research, then I realised that this is not just any space, Coffee House @ Rex is actually the original location of Old Chang Kee’s first stall over three decades ago.
From a humble beginning at a tiny stall in the corner of the local coffee shop, Old Chang Kee’s flagship store reflect a bygone era in a bigger and brighter 50-seater space that spans three shophouse units! One can expect to find instagram worthy corners that exuded old-school charms and retro deco!
Fans of Old Chang Kee and its affiliated brands, Curry Times, Bun Times and Dip ‘n’ Go will be thrilled to find regular favourites items as well as several NEW and EXCLUSIVE offering at Old Chang Kee’s flagship store. Yes, now you can have everything under one roof!!! One of my fav NEW item got to be the Flower Bread with Curry Chicken ($11.90), you can also order the flower bread with Chicken Stew ($11.90); or Beef Stew ($13.90). I love how thick and rich the gravy was and best of all, the gravy was free flow! This is perfect for sharing and I like how soft and fluffy the bread was!!
Cheese x beef lovers can also try the Beef Stew Rice ($9.50) which was also an item exclusively available at Old Chang Kee’s flagship store. Served in a mess tin with melted cheese, tender beef chunks, radish and carrots on top of some white rice, this is definitely a delicious treat for anyone.
Fans of Curry Times will be thrilled to find items such as Dry Laksa Goreng ($8.50), Hainanese Chap Chye ($6.20) and Nasi Lemak with Dry Curry Chicken ($8.90) available here as well.
Oh yes, do you know that Old Chang Kee’s curry puff has a signature “corner” that set them apart from any curry puff? I got my share of trying to make them and I can tell you, it looked so much easier than it really was. Thank you Old Chang Kee for this awesome experience. Yes, you can get those delicious buns from Bun Times as well as the deep fried snacks from Dip ‘n’ Go too. My personal fav bun gotta be the Hae Bee Hiam bun. Omg they were so good and I am craving for them now! Time for a revisit to Old Chang Kee’s flagship store!
