My not so regular Sundays

On a regular Sunday while many people have the luxury of sleeping in late, I will be at TAC Coffee brewing coffee from 9am onwards. This has been like a little “hobby” shared with J since March 2015. How time flies! A year has passed!

During this one year, we came out with 2 coffee blends – TAC #1 & TAC #2. Both coffee blends have their own unique characteristics which we wanted to appeal to different groups of coffee drinkers. For TAC #1, it is a blend of 3 coffee beans (Brazil, El Salvador and Ethiopia Sidamo). This blend is medium bodied and has a velvety mouthfeel with a lingering nutty finish when it is drank as a white (aka with milk e.g latte, flat white…etc). TAC #1 has been quite popular with our regulars but somehow we feel that we should come out with another blend. After having a little success with TAC #1, we have decided to create another blend to appeal to another group of coffee drinkers.
TACCOFFEE-30As many Singaporeans have been drinking Nanyang coffee since young and accustomed to coffee with a stronger and heavier mouthfeel, we wanted TAC #2 to appeal to the latter coffee lovers. Don’t be mistaken, all the coffee blends that we created are still 100% Arabica specialty graded coffee beans.
TACCOFFEEUsing India monsoon, Indonesia Sumatra and Columbia Supremo, we have blended TAC #2 with a heavier body and it has lovely notes of spice and tobacco. One of my regular even commented that it is best paired with a cigar just like how cigar and wine goes together. Lol. Even though we have some little success in blending 2 coffee blends, we feel that coffee is a lifelong learning journey. We are constantly on the look out for opportunities to learn from other people and to improve ourselves. Hopefully, in the future we can have another coffee blend to appeal to another group of people. Do drop by TAC Coffee to say hi if you are around the vicinity, okies? ?

Bukit Purmei Lor Mee at West Coast

But life does not stop evolving around food even when I am barista-ing. I am still constantly on the lookout for food! Lol. So 2 Sundays ago, I made my way down to West Coast to Tabao (pack) the famous Bukit Purmei Lor Mee in the late morning while J tend the shop.

I reached the coffee shop at about 10.30am and a queue has already started snaking! Oh my tian, I can really see the love that people has for this lor mee.

It took me about half an hour before it is my turn to order.

To be frank, ordering is quite a breeze. It is like an assemble line whereby an auntie will take the order and cook the noodles while there will be another lady who will add in ingredients and toppings such braised pork belly, sliced fish cakes and crispy deep fried “batter” before pouring the thick gooey brown gravy onto the lor mee. For those who are packing their Lor Mee, it is good to know that they packed the noodles and the gravy separately. =)

For those who has eating the Lor Mee there, there is an array of condiments that you can add to the lor mee according to your preference.

The good news for people who are craving for the Bukit Purmei Lor Mee is that it is finally reopened. However due to the health of the owner, Uncle Zhang, the stall is closed on every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Well well, at least they are open on weekend right? =D

Located at the same coffeeshop as Ah Hoe Mee Pok, the people at west coast are now blessed with 2 legendary local delights. Maybe the next time, I will come and pack the mee pok back on Sunday.

Sunflowers

You might also notice a florist in front of the coffeeshop. Oh my gosh, their flowers are both pretty and cheap. I bought a stalk of sunflower for J. It is $4 if you do not need packaging and $12 if you want to get the friendly florist to wrap it up nicely. Which girl doesn’t like flowers, right? J was beaming when she saw the beautiful bouquet of flowers.
