Located at 6 raffles boulevard, Marina Square level 1, I would consider Malts as an under the radar whisky bar. Not only does Malts offers more than 150 different labels of whisky, it has a good variety of proper food and bar bites.
For those who prefer to start the night with a cocktail, cocktails are such as old fashioned, whisky sour and first Roar arepreiced at $18++ with and prepared together with homemade syrup.
Whisky lovers can also get a tasting flight from as low as $42 for 3 glasses of 30ml whisky or a shot of your prefer whisky from $12.
I kid you not, there is something to suit any and every whisky drinker. While I have found love in Shinobu blended whisky Mizunara oak finish which is smooth, delicate and yet still has a light peaty note. Some of my dining partner prefer a Tamnavulin Sherrye Cask which is slightly sweeter with hints of caramel.
Not forgetting the usual suspects such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and Auchentoshan. One can also find those uncommon whisky such as Glenrothes Vintage Reserve. Oh yes, there is also a private room available for booking. As of now, there is no minimum spending and of cos it is limited to 8 guests only.
While whisky might take a centre stage at Malts, please do not just come here for a drink as the food served here are really quite awesome. We have enjoyed the Grilled Meat Platter ($78) which is a reasonsable serving for 2 to 3 pax with grilled chicken leg, ribeye, lamb chop as well as pork sausage. Personally, I like the grilled chicken a lot as it is juicy, flavourful and packed with a lovely smokiness. We have even jokingly said that Malts should be Meats and Malts instead.
We have also enjoyed the Spicy Aglio Olio with Prawns ($27) which is cooked al dente with the right amount of heat and a generous portion of garlic.
There are also bar bites from $12 onwards for those who want to have something to eat together with the drinks.
Spicy Tomato Beef Meatballs has good review from people around the table as the meatballs are big, fat, tender and compliment well with the spicy tomato sauce and stretchy cheese.
Ladies who want something light, there is Burrata Salad ($15) and Caesar Salad ($14) on the menu too.
Malts Whisky Bar is definitely not just a place for whisky lovers. It can be a place where people gathers for food and drinks. We have even bumped into former Worker’s Party Chef, Mr Low Thia Khiang, here. So do check it out if you are around Marina Square. They are located on level one, on the left side of the escalator before going entering into Marina Square Level 2.
