For those who love picnic, you guys must at least attend Le Dîner en Blanc once in your lifetime. Dîner en Blanc aka the most elegant picnic was back in Singapore for the sixth year and I finally managed to attend this white party. If you have not heard about it, this is an annual picnic event where every attendee gotta deck in white and bring their own food. So what’s so special about it that hundreds were flash gathered every year?
The concept for Dîner en Blanc began in Paris 1988 when Frenchman François Pasquier invited a group of friends to an outdoor dinner at Bois de Boulogne with the request that everyone of them to be dressed in white for the ease to find each other. True enough, when we were gathering at our pick up location in Tiong Bahru, the sea of white did help me find my way to the meeting point.
Once everyone has gathered, there were coaches to send us to the secret location where we will dine and feast. The moment of anticipation was high and everyone was whispering to each other, making guess of the secret dining location.
For this year’s location, it was at the empty space near Singapore Flyer with Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands as our backdrop.
One can choose to bring their own food, white tables and chairs or simply enjoy the experience by pre-ordering your food and rent the table. But do book early as the tables and chairs were usually the ones in high demand.
In the sea of white with beautiful table setting and lovely backdrop, it was extremely difficult not to take any pictures. So do remember to charge your camera battery and bring your portable charger along.
With everything set up nicely, all we were waiting for was the moment when everyone waves the white napkin to mark the start of Dîner en Blanc.
Oh yes, if you would like to have some alcohol to go with your meals, you can also pre-order it from Dîner en Blanc website and collect it on the day itself.
At about 9pm, it was when the actions started. The after party includes trendy songs with sparkles to light up the night. If you are an early bird, you can choose to take the coach back to the meeting point or simply depart from the secret location. My advise is don’t drive, leave the car at home. Just come and enjoy the beautiful evening with everyone else.

Phase 1 is for members from the previous year;
Phase 2 is for guests referred by Phase 1 members; and
Phase 3 is for people who are new to the event and have signed up on the waiting list.
