It is hard to skip food hunting whenever I meet up with my friends. Hence, the last time Shirley was free, we went to Kumoya, where Karafuku was former located in Jalan Kapla.
We cant help but to notice the similarity in the minimalistic interior design which was 99.99% similar to Karafuku.
Even the eclairs looked similar!
Upon checking, we realised that Kumoya is actually opened by one of the shareholder of Karafuku. Hence, he kept everything the same except that he is also introducing savoury food and tweaking some of the recipes after hearing feedbacks from his former customers.
As Shirley and I was rather full, we have decided to share the Tempura Soft Shell Crab with Pancake ($17.90). While we felt that the soft shell crab was very ordinary, we were however impressed with the light and fluffy pancakes. If there is one thing you must try in Kumoya, try the pancake and skip the rest.
The pink dessert, Sakura Yogurt Parfait ($14.90), was still as pretty as ever. While I like how the flavours were stronger than the previous rendition at Karafuku, I would like my white chocolate rice puff to be more crispy.
We have also tried the Matcha Pancake ($14.90) which was using the same pancake batter as the savoury dishes. Surprisingly, I really like the saltiness in the pancake batter. Much to my regret, I couldn’t say the same for the Matcha sauce or Matcha financiers.
Overall, I feel that the food is better than its predecessor and at least there are now savoury food options. If you are looking for a nice minimalistic space with good natural lighting, this is still quite a good option. Well, who can resist beauitful desserts in this internet savvy era where it is all about sharing pretty things online, right?
On the side note, Shirley and I were coincidentally wearing similar outfits that day. Kinda cute, right? we can’t resist taking some #ootd lol
