House of MU, more than just a RESTAURANT

They said the best way to chase monday blues away is by keeping the tummy happy. How can I not agreed on this saying, right? This leads me to think of the food at House of MU, a place whereby I can shop furniture while having my meal. Yes, you are right, the “MU” here refers to the chinese character “木 ” which means wood. House of Mu is not only a restaurant with a head chef, Tyrell Joon, who was previously at Michelin-starred restaurants such as Les Amis, Au Jardin and Iggy’s, it is also a Burmese Teak Furniture shop. Sounds interesting right?

I am often skeptical about drinking Soup of the Day ($9) at a restaurant as having to work in F&B outlet when I was in my teen, I know that many restaurants were actually using those instant soup. But the cream of mushroom at House of MU was light yet it captured the essence of a good mushroom soup. There was a unanimously agreement that this was one of the better mushroom soup around. My only gripe was I was looking for more textural bite in my soup. lol

Pan Seared Scallops ($19) was a delight to have for a starter. The French scallops were pan seared and paired with cauliflower puree. The fresh green apple stripes added some acidity to the dish and made it very refreshing to have.

MUnster Platter ($138) that was served with prime cuts of black angus beef steak, roasted chicken, US pork tenderloin, smoked cheese sausage, roasted vegetables and baby potatoes, paired with black pepper sauce was said to be shared among 3 to 4 pax. But I thought the serving was good for maybe 5 to 6 pax! I like how tender and moist the chicken and pork tenderloin were while my dining partners raved about the delicious black angus beef steak. This is definitely one of the must order for any meat lover! Quick grab a few friends to share this yo!

The idea of Create Your Own Risotto & Pasta (spaghetti/linguini) served with garden greens ($14) was ingenious to appease to the dining crowd like me who always trying to customise my own carbs. First, we select a base sauce from the 4 selections – tomato, black ink, aglio olio (+$6), truffle cream (+$6) then add in the optional toppings – veg lover (+5), chicken breast (+$5), vongole (+$5), crayfish (+$6) or bacon (+$6).
We had Linguine with tomato base sauce and veg lover ($19) and Risotto with truffle cream base sauce and crayfish ($26)

As the day when we were having the tasting happened to be my birthday, Chef Tyrell was so sweet to prepare the Oreo cake with raspberry granita ($7 per person) which was not launched yet and needed to pre-order at least three days in advance. I really love how refreshing the raspberry granita was and it gave the dessert an overall more balancing touch as the oreo cake was rich and dense.

Lychee granita ( $8 per person) was a nice way to end the meal like a palette cleanser. The addition of mango foam, passionfruit jelly and lychee fruit bits also gave the dessert more textural bite.

House of Mu is definitely not just a restaurant nor a burmese teak furniture shop. It is an integrated lifestyle restaurant that married the art of furniture shopping with food for foodies who are looking for quality furniture. Besides food and furniture, one can also delight in the selection of wines and gin available. Such a lovely place with free wifi, no wonder, my dining partner said that she has found her secret hideout here.
