Food Review: Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay in Singapore MBS

The much anticipated Bread Street Kitchen by internationally renowned Michelin-star chef Gordon Ramsay has finally opened its door in Singapore!! For all Masterchef and Hell Kitchen lovers, I am sure like me, you are looking forward to try the food by this fiery chef. No, Gordon Ramsay’s famous beef Wellington is not spotted on the menu. But we spotted other interesting dishes.

Bread Street Kitchen occupies 2 levels at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. On the basement one level, it consists of an open kitchen, high chair seatings, booth seats for four and a long table that I would think is catered for big group reservations.
On the ground level, there is an area where people can chill while enjoying the city view and the rest of the space seems to cater for small group diners (1-4 pax). Although I have read from many sources that it is modeled after its London counterpart with industrial warehouse theme, it looks more to me like an upmarket restaurant. I think that this is nowhere near warehouse (perhaps not how warehouses are in Singapore). If it is a warehouse, it must be an very atas one. Lol

After showing us our table, a server checked with us on the type of water (there are a few types to choose from e.g sparkling water, tap water..etc ) that we would like to have. The service was rather swift and each area has a designated server. The server for my table was an ang moh lady by the name of Suzanne (if I remember correctly. Hahahah me n my gold fish memory). A basket of assorted homemade breads were served shortly with salted butter. As a big fan of bread, I was so happy to enjoy the warm assorted bread basket.

For starters, we ordered Seared scallops with carrot purée, treacle cured bacon, apple and celery cress ($24). The scallops were nicely seared but the whole combination is inclined to the sweeter side. It is a good dish to order but perhaps it is a personal preference, we would prefer something more savory for a scallop dish.

We like the Tagliolini with lobster, chili, spring onions, parsley and white wine ($28). The homemade tagliolini was al dente and went well with the white wine sauce. Definitely a tease to our palette. Our only regret is the lobster was overcooked. Boo boo. Perhaps with the high expectations that it is opened by Gordon Ramsey, it was kinda disappointing.

This is one of the highlights of the night, Roasted Black Cod with crushed potatoes, salted capers, artichoke, red wine and lemon sauce ($44). With a price tag of $44, it is rather pricey but I am so convinced that it is worth every dollar spent. The black cod was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin. I love how moist the cod was. The crushed potatoes aka mash was very addictive, buttery and with some textual bites. Overall the combination was beautiful. Me likey.

We ended the night with a bang with Coffee and White Chocolate Parfait with poached blackberries ($18). Blackberries are quite tricky to handle as they can be sour or slightly bitter at times. But after poaching them, they complement the parfait so well. I am surprised by how well balanced the parfait was as white chocolate usually gives people an impression of something very sweet. It was nothing too sweet or overwhelming. I love the hints of coffee notes and the chocolate crisps that gives the smooth parfait a good textural bite.

The table reservation is currently full till the end of the month. But if you want to make a table reservation, do highlight that you have the MBS lifestyle reward card. As you will be entitled to a glass of mocktail or cocktail (not sure how this promotion will last, do check with the staff upon reservation). We chose the cocktail for this romantic night of our anniversary. A concoction of gin, yuzu and mandarin orange juice with some orange zest. A prefect pre-dinner drink which is tangy and refreshing. Nothing too strong to knock me out. Lol
Although there are some hits and misses, we are very sure that we will be back to try other dishes on the menu. Given that I went down on their first day of operations, I think they fared very well in terms of service and for some of the items we ordered. Against the stunning backdrop of Singapore’s cityscape, I think that this is a great place to go chill over a cocktail or a glass of wine (or more if your mood calls for it) =)
