With 27 days to Chinese New Year (5th Feb 2019), it is never too early to start planning for your reunion dinner especially if you are looking at having it at Song Garden. I kid you not, Song Garden at Mercure Singapore Bugis was fully booked way before Chinese New year last year.
There is no fancy presentation but Song Garden’s signature Salmon & Fresh Fruit Yu Sheng (颂苑蛙鱼缤纷捞生 $98 Regular, $138 Large) is a refreshing twist from your usual yusheng offering with a colourful addition of Dragon Fruit, Rock Melon, Apples, Mango and Pear on top of the traditional carrot salads. Oh yes, if you wish to indulge in more luxurious toppings, there are options of Bamboo Lobster ($118 Regular, $168 Large), Abalone ($108 Regular, $148 Large) or Kanpachi Yu Sheng ($88 Regular, $128 Large).
Poon choi is a laborious dish where one would find layers of ingredients such as pork, chicken, abalone, prawn, dried mushroom, chinese white radish, black moss…etc in a huge pot to give it that unmatching flavours and unmami. Available for both dine in and takeaway, Song Garden Supreme Fortune Pot (颂苑怀旧盆菜 $388 Regular, $688 Large) is packed with premium ingredients such as Japanese 8-head Abalone, Roast Duck, Crispy Pork Belly, Dried Oysters, Sea cucumber, Scallop before it is cooked for more than for two hours in a quality stock in a casserole pot.
One of the items that I live live must have is the Lobster with Pumpkin Puree served in Hot Stone Pot with Bacon Scallion Pencil. This is one soup that you would like if you are very particular with the temperature of the soup serve to you. Piping hot soup with a generous chuck of lobster is available on the regular menu as well as on the LONGEVITY ($98 per pax, min. 2 persons ) and HARMONY ($1298 for 10 persons) Chinese New Year Menu with an auspicious name 龙马精神 ( full of vitality in chinese).
Another dish that is equally propitious is the Golden Pillow White Pepper Pork Spare Ribs Bun, symbolizing wealth in the Year of the Pig. Encased in a beautiful golden baked bun made in house, the pork spare ribs are slow braised till fork tender with a homemade recipe from Executive Chef Wong.
What is better than Deep-fried Glutinous Rice Cake (煎年糕, 年年高升) to round up the reunion dinner. Having the meaning of great advancement in the year ahead, this is a delicious dessert which one can also enjoy at the comfort of one’s home. Besides the Steamed Glutinous Rice Cake ($23.80), Water Chestnut Cake ($20.80) and Steamed Carrot Cake with Chinese Sausage ($20.80) are also available for takeaway.
