Friends have often joked about me being an alcoholic but I guess I am only having a special interest in some simple pleasures in life such as wine, cheese, chocolate and of cos GIN. Hence, when the opportunity came to have a private networking session with key tourism operators from Margaret River, followed by a wine tasting with gourmet treats from Margaret River, how can I miss it right?
Set against a backdrop of lush greenery at Tamarind Hill in Labrador Park, we were as if transported to the Margaret River region during the event to discover the tastes and experiences of the region.
Besides rubbing shoulders with some of the best winemakers in Margaret River, I have also tried over 80 different wines. One of the most interesting wines that I have tried was from Revelation Winery. This organic winery used no synthetic and systemic chemicals on the vineyard and has low intervention during wine making process by using only wild yeast with minimal sulphites and nothing else. However, the taste of the wine was still very clean and crisp.
While Margaret River is largely known for wineries, do you know that Limeburners, an award winning distillery which is also Western Australia’s first Single Malt Whisky distillery, has a distillery there? Over at this location, it is also the home of Giniversity, a gin distillery that produced fresh and fruity gin with pronounced aromas of lemon myrtle and eucalypt!
Of course, you can’t miss having some chocolates if you are at Margaret River.
Oh yes, if you are a fan of handcrafted raw soap bars and products made using Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil and quality natural ingredients, don’t forget to visit Vasse Virgin in Margaret River wine region. You can even learn to make your own lip balm and learn more about natural perfumery during their 30 minute classes to half-day DIY style workshops and master classes.
