I have heard a lot about Blue Lotus for its innovative and contemporary spins on traditional Chinese dishes but have never made it to the restaurant till recently to check out its Chinese New Year offerings. Stay with me as I share more on some of the items that we have tried.
I kid you not that Blue lotus has one of the most fluffy and lightest Yusheng in town. It consists of Norwegian Smoked Salmon and Sakura Ebi, deep fried ginger, 10 different kind of herbs and vegetables, almond, honey glazed walnut, pomelo, crispy salmon skin, silver bait and deep fried rice vermicelli with spring onion-infused olive oil and wild honey yuzu dressing. While the deep fried rice vermicelli, salmon skin and white bait gave the yusheng the crispy bite, the honey glazed walnut added a nutty and crunchy profile. Overall, it is a well balanced and refreshing yusheng to have. The Blue Lotus Yu Sheng is available for both dine-in and takeaway at $48 or $68. I thought this is a great idea to toss to a bountiful year.
Oh yes, when you are at Blue Lotus, don’t forget to order the housemade Iced Lemon Tea ($6). Personally, I enjoyed that hints of smokiness which I do not find it anywhere else. Of course, if you are looking for some alcoholic beverages, Blue Lotus has Happy Hour from 12pm to 10pm featuring red wine, white wine and Sapporo Draft (pint) at $8 each.
Available on the Happiness Chinese New Year Menu ($68 per pax, minimum 4 pax), the Braised Crab Meat, Fish Maw and Dried Scallops Broth is hot! Doused with some Hua Diao Rice Wine and enoki mushroom, the soup is thick, flavoursome and packed with a natural sweetness from both the wine and the ingredients used.
For those who enjoy suckling pig and wanted to have an auspicious start for the year of Pig, do keep your eye on this Slow-Roasted Spanish-Style Suckling Pig ($238, Blue Lotus Gold Members $198) which is available for dine-in and takeaway. But do note that pre-orders are required with at least 3 days in advance to allow for the preparation time of the Suckling Pig. This Sucking pig is prepared with a Spanish twist which gives it a glossy finish on the skin. Not only is it crispy and non-geasy, it has a lovely savoury flavour from the marination with salted fish. Oh yes, for those who are curious about the Blue Lotus Gold Members, it is a membership which all you need to do is to pay $30 to get it and you will get $60 vouchers (3 x $20), 10% cashback on the subtotal of the bill as well as a bottle of wine for birthday month. Did I also mention free corkage of 5 bottles of alcohol per year?

Claypot Hua Tiao Drunken Prawn is served in a claypot to keep the broth warm and nice while you enjoy the fresh and plumb prawns. With top quality drinking grade Hua diao rice wine added, the broth is sweeter and more aromatic. Definitely a great way to enjoy the marine crustacean which is available on the Happiness Chinese New Year Menu ($68 per pax, minimum 4 pax)
For those who love pork lard and mushroom, Hot Stone Pork Lard Rice was mind blowing! Served on the hot stone and mix quickly after serving onto the table, diners got to wait for 30s before u eat it. Complimenting it with the pork lard processed in house, it is a gastronomic party as the pork lard are made very crispy yet not dry. A similar rendition can be found on the CNY set menu as the Steamed Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf with a different serving method.
For the first time ever, Blue Lotus is introducing its artisanal Nian Gao Goodies ($38 each), available in Traditional and Red Date flavours as well as the brand new Carrot Cakes and Yam Cakes. $38+each. For me, the carrot cake and the red date nian gao are the winner in terms of flavour and texture. There are also Takeaway Set ($188+, ideal for 4-6 people) available for pick-up at all Blue Lotus outlets. This 4-course Takeaway Set consists of the Blue Lotus Yu Sheng, Paper-Wrapped Salt-Baked Herbal Chicken, 48 Hours Slow-Cooked “Dong Po”Kurobuta Pork Belly, and Fragrant Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chinese Sausage and Dried Shrimp in Lotus Leaf. This takeaway set also comes with a complimentary tingkat of Nian Gao Goodies, and is available as a dine-in option only at Blue Lotus Kitchen + Bar. For online table reservation or purchase takeaway items and goodies, you can check out Blue Lotus Website
