Cafe Hopping: Flock @ Ghim Moh

The cafe culture in Singapore has been very vibrant and I was elated to know that a new cafe has opened its door in a quiet neighborhood near my church. Thus when Shirley asked me along for the media tasting along with Sihan and Ian, I agreed.

So on a beautiful Sat, we made our way down to Flock cafe in Ghim Moh. It is located near the market which is currently under renovation. Just like Flock’s first outlet in Tiong Bahru, it retains the characteristic of the new meeting the old in this quiet neighborhood.
As we stepped in, we were greeted by beautiful natural lighting and a minimalist deco with the mix of communal tables and small tables for 2.
There is a huge menu at the side of the cafe and the ordering of food is made at the counter. I like the idea of having huge blackboard menu on the wall as nobody need to squint their eyes to read the menu. 🙂
Flock uses the coffee beans from Liberty Coffee so cheers to liberty coffee lovers, you have yet another place for your caffeine fix. 😉
 The Cheeky Eggs ($14)

We started our lovely brunch with The Cheeky Eggs and it is one of my favourite items amongst what we have tried. Toasted brioche with homemade pull pork cheek, topped with poached eggs and hollandise sauce. I like how the egg yolk flow as we cut through it. The homemade pull pork was flavourful and reminded me of some home cook goodness.

Spicy Chicken Katsu Burger ($15)

Mildly spicy but as compared to The Cheeky Egg, the deep fried chicken thigh was not as well seasoned as I would like it to be.

Homemade Nonya Fish & Prawn Sandwich ($15)

Inspired by Nonya Otah, this is another Flock’s signature dish. A palm size big fish and prawn patty with bites of fish and prawn sandwiched between a ciabiatta bread.

Pork Cheek Rigatoni with shaved parmesan ($14)

Using the same pork cheek from The Cheeky Egg, this dish won my heart again. The rigotani was tossed with garlic oil and topped with the pork cheek and shaved parmesan. However, for people who are more health conscious, do note that this is SINFULLY good. So I say ditch your diet plan!

Sauteed Prawn & Dried Shrimp Linguine ($14)

This is my first time having dried shrimp (Haebe) in a pasta but I am addicted to it. Imagine crispy haebe with pasta tossed in garlic oil and sauteed prawn, flavourful comfort food. I would highly recommend it to anybody who likes haebe and pasta. It is simply a joyful marriage between the both.

Brioche French toast ($12)
Besides hot savoury dishes, Flock also serves desserts and sweet dishes. We tried the Brioche French Toast and it was served with candied bacon and typical fruits such as watermelon and canned peach.
If you just want to laze the day away with a cup of tea, cakes or pastries, there are also some bakes outsourced from a Le Cordon Bleu trained pastry chef. To be frank, I have tried Flock about 2 years back and I wasn’t impressed. However, I am glad that I agreed to come for the media tasting. It was a totally different experience which left me impressed with dishes such as The Cheeky Eggs, Sauteed Prawn & Dried Shrimp Linguine and the Pork Cheek Rigatoni with shaved parmesan. This is definitely a cafe that I will go back to for their food. 😉
