Chinatown has always been one of my favourite area in Singapore. This vibrant area in Singapore is known for its beautiful historical buildings, rich and of cos a foodie’s paradise. Burnt Ends, Asia’s top 14 Restaurant is tucked in Teck Lim Road, a quieter corner off Keong Siak road and this is also one of J’s favourite restaurant.
There is a choice of indoor and outdoor seating. As we went Burnt Ends rather last minute without any booking, the restaurant was full.
But this is by no means taking any charms away from it. In fact, I like the idea of people watching while sitting at one of its outdoor seating.
For starters, we had smoked quail egg and caviar ($15). The smokiness from the quail eggs was on point with the caviar lightly seasoned the molten lava eggs. Da Yum!
Simple as it looks, Crackling and Mustard ($6) is a crowd pleaser with its beautifully done crackling. Just like how a perfect shio bak is meant to be, crunchiness with every bite from the crackling skin. Burnt Ends’s Crackling has the crunchiness minus away the fatty pork belly. I must say this is super addictive! Strangely why didn’t I order a bottle of Evil Twins craft beer to go with it.
We ask for some recommendation and the well mannered server recommended the Leek, Hazelnut and Brown Butter ($16). Brilliant! I like how buttery the leek was while J enjoyed it with those freshly roasted hazelnuts. Quite an impressive dish as it managed to make J, a total carnivore, enjoyed her greens very much.
No one should leave Burnt Ends without trying the Burnt Ends’ Sanger ($20). This is one of J’s must order here and also one of the highly recommended dish by my burger loving friend, Sihan. We love the smokiness from the pulled pork shoulder that was served with homemade slaw, chipotle aioli in a brioche bun. I dare to say this is one of the best rendition in town. You must really try to believe how good it is. Enuff said!
As the menu is written afresh on a daily basis, there is always an excuse to be back to Burnt Ends. To be frank, this is one of the places that everything I ordered is no less than above average. I kid you not. Very impressive in my opinion. Do give it a try and share with me how you like it ya.
