As a Singaporean, food hunting is almost in my blood. But as I am not a big eater, afternoon tea is my best option not to stuff myself silly. Among the afternoon tea offerings in Singapore, one of my favourite place to go to is MO Bar at Mandarin Oriental.
A great place to chill the afternoon away and a classy bar by night, MO Bar has recently celebrated its first anniversary. In celebration of this joyous occasion, MO BAR has launched the Black and Gold afternoon tea which is inspired by the bar’s contemporary interior!
Priced at $48 per person and $88 for two persons, the afternoon tea at MO Bar is inclusive of one pot of coffee or TWG tea which I would recommend the Malacca Gold BOP TWG Tea as it compliments the whole afternoon tea menu. If you are in for a cocktail or mocktail, it will be $65 per person while a glass of “R” de Ruinart champagne would set you back at $68 per person.
I have been to MO Bar for afternoon te several times but this Black and Gold afternoon tea was full of surprises as compared to its precessors. We were first introduced to a golden tin teemed with jewels of what seems like caviar. Voila! They were actually coffee spheres made using a molecular gastronomy technique lying on a bear of velvety Shinko pear puree. Quite a pleasure for both visually and gastronomically.
Next we had some Taraba Crab Vol Au Vent and Smoked Hamachi on Seaweed Crackers and Yuzu which left us wanting for more.

Using ingredients from Japan, Black and Gold afternoon tea has a good balance of both savouries and sweets.

Not only did I get to eat some freshly baked Black Sesame Scones, for MO Bar’s Black and Gold afternoon tea, premium Muscat Grapes were also served at the end of the session to give it a sweet round up.
