Beauty Review: The Body Shop Expert Facial Masks

They said that sunblock is life. But I have my second opinion. Not that I deny how important sunblock is in our beauty regime ( Give me some time, I will share more about it in another post soon), I find that doing mask is equally important. As a mask fanatic, I am always up to review masks as I really believe in how doing mask can improve our skin conditions. Here is what I got to say about the set of The Body Shop Expert Facial Masks that were sent over for me to review.

To be honest, I have heard a lot about this range of masks. I am quite a lazy person so I always prefer to use sheet mask instead of those rinse off ones. But you and me know that sheet mask has its flaws which included moisture can be sucked back out of skin if we leave it on more than the time it is supposed to be as well as how adhesive the mask is to your skin also give you a varies of results. So yes, I have ditched my daily sheet mask routine to check out The Body Shop Expert Facial Masks and see if they are worth the hassle.

It is a no brainer to guess that I would give the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask ($35) a try first as it is the best seller in this range. Although it is said to be a charcoal mask but it is packed with more than just bamboo charcoal! The first few ingredients listed also include Kaolin Clay, which help to remove excess sebum without any drying effect and has soothing effect and Moroccan Lava Clay, which is a mineral-rich clay that aids in drawing out the impurities of the skin, strengthening the elasticity of the skin, reduce breakout as well as to provide hydration for dehydrated, sensitive skin with enlarged pores. Camellia Sinensis Leaf aka green tea leaves as well as Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, a type of Aloe vera, community trade tea tree oil and Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf oil are also found in this mask. It is said that this mask is great to address to skin concern such as excess oil, blemishes as well as clogged pores. Although it stings a bit when I put it on (i suspected it to be the alcohol denat being one of the ingredients), my skin didn’t have any reaction after using it. Instead, I noticed that my T-zone area become less oily and I also like how the green tea leaves gives a gentle exfoliation when I was rinsing the mask off. 5 to 10 minutes is all it takes to keep my T-zone under control, what is there not to love. Oh yes, I forget to mention that I use this mask as as a targeted treatment for my T-zone as I have dry/combination skin.

The Body Shop Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask is supposed to be great for dull skin with uneven skin tone. As it was inspired by Chinese traditions, this creamy exfoliating mask contains Ginseng extract to revitalise skin, Rice extract to moisturise and brighten the skin as well as Community Trade organic sesame seed oil from Nicaragua to soften the skin. The mask also contains Kaolin clay to clarify the skin and Glycerin to draw hydration to the skin! I like how The Body Shop Chinese Ginseng & Rice Mask provides a gentle exfoliation with Luffa Cylindrica Fruit added and the texture of the mask is not too grainy. In fact, my skin does feel softer and brighter after using it.

Being a lover of the rose scent, British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask was the next that I have tried. I was actually using it together with the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask (T-zone) as well as Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask (chin area) to give my skin a boost after partied for a couple of days in a week. As compare to the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask, the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask has a more gelish texture and one of the first few ingredients that are listed include Glycerin, which helps to keep the skin hydrated while preventing moisture loss, Propanediol to soften the skin, PPG 26 Buteth 26 to improve suppleness as well as rose petals, rosehip oil and community trade organic aloe vera. Although it is a hydrating mask that is suitable for normal to dry skin and can be paired with other mask in The Body Shop Expert Facial Mask range, I find it not hydrating enough for my 40 years old ageing skin. Instead I have more love for the Mediterranean Almond Milk with Oats Instant Soothing Mask.

As some of you might have known, I have sensitive skin. Hence, Mediterranean Almond Milk with Oats Instant Soothing Mask is another mask that I was looking forward to try. Upon opening it, I am greeted by a familiar and welcoming scent from The Body Shop Almond Milk. I like that I didn’t suffer from any irritations, break out or redness from the mask and the mask also leave my skin feeling really plump, supple and well moisturised. The texture of the mask is creamy and doesn’t dry out even after 10 minutes. Blended with oatmeal, community trade organic almond milk and aloe vera, this mask also provided a gentle exfoliation as well as soothing effect for the skin. I also notice that my makeup glided on rather effortlessly after using the mask. So this is definitely one of my favourites from The Body Shop Expert Facial Mask range for I find it really pampering for my sensitive yet dehydrated and dull skin.

To be honest, Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask is another mask that surprised me. My first impression of the mask is it is in a creamy texture with little loofah particles and a lovely scent that reminded me of spa. I like that it is also easy to apply. Though I felt a light tingle for the first few seconds upon application, it was soon taken over by a nice cooling sensation. While my skin felt cleansed and refreshed after rinsing the mask off, it doesn’t leave it feel dry. In fact, I feel that my skin looks more radiant and smooth. Of course with key ingredients such as Japanese Matcha Tea Extract and Dandelion Extract that both shouting anti-aging and skin detoxing, this is another of the mask that I will keep in my beauty stash to be used at least once/ twice a week. Oh yes, you can try also using the Mediterranean Almond Milk with Oats Instant Soothing Mask after using the Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask if you are looking for a DIY nourishing facial at home to address to dry and dull skin. Personally, I like this mask combo a lot as I could really feel my skin getting nourished and after several uses, I kid you not, the fine lines on my forehead seem to lighten!

Coffee as my way of life. Hence, The Body Shop Nicaraguan Coffee Intense Awakening Mask is one mask that I live live wanna try. The mask is enriched with Coffee Beans Particles, Community Trade Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter as well as Sesame Seed Oil which I could totally imagine how good this mask is going to be to keep my skin feeling moisturised! Upon application, I can feel my skin getting warm and I am in love with the aroma of the coffee mask which my friend described as literally letting your face drinks coffee. Hmmmm so delicious!!!
After rinsing the mask off after 10 minutes, my skin feels soft and rejuvenated with a nice natural glow. Hence, I would recommend this to anyone with tired skin which need an energising boost.
