An Eco Christmas Fiesta Weekend – be socially conscious whilst indulging in Christmas celebrations!

Jolly, Joy, Jostle and Jingle;
Tis the season, let us Mingle!
Christmas is the season of great joy – a time to bond with your family and friends, a time to escape the daily pressures of work. It’s not only about presents sometimes; it’s about enjoying the time you have on this Earth, and forgetting those bad feelings you might have about someone else. This Christmas, Civil Service Club Changi opened its doors to the public, inviting them to celebrate Christmas the socially conscious and eco-friendly way in the heart of idyllic Changi.

This Christmas, reminisce the good old kelong days by taking a walk down memory lane. Kelongs are structures built above the sea by driving wooden piles (eg: trunks of coconut trees) into the seabed. Fishermen then catch fresh seafood from the seas below, and prepare the fresh catch for customers to enjoy.

Besides reminiscing the old times by viewing the kelongs, enjoy the aromas of freshly prepared food selections wafting from the Gourmet Cabanas overlooking the breathtaking outline as well! Prepare to feast your way through the night as the chefs whip up yet more delectable cuisines with the freshest catch from the local sea.

Highlights of the fiesta weekend included an elusive experience with snowfall, eco-friendly upcycling and recycling gift workshops, as well as the making of edible terrariums! With a foundation of candy-coated chocolate rocks and colourful M&M chocolates, an edible gummy fern is placed on top to complete this faux-terrarium!

Christmas celebrations at Civil Service Club Changi also targeted people with special needs by aiding them in showcasing their unique abilities to people. Eco Christmas Fiesta Weekends collaborated with The Mustard Tree, a social enterprise which actively creates opportunities for those with special needs to have a platform to sell their handmade products for a livelihood. 20-year-old Caleb who is pursuing a 3-year course in Retail at ITE College is a good example of the outreach by The Mustard Tree, as he had been linked up with a toy vendor to sell their toys on consignment to give him the chance of pursuing a career in toy retailing.
Eco Christmas also partnered with a few especially talented students from The Art Faculty, with such like 14-year-old Grace who conducted live drawing demonstrations and sold merchandises like notebooks designed by her. Her peers included 20-year-old See Toh Sheng Jie, who created a hype last year with his dinosaur-patterned pouch that was well-liked by PM Lee’s wife.
There were also an good variety of vendors selling from food to eco friendly or handmade products at the event. We enjoyed a snowy good time at the event as we basked in the celebrations sparkling with unbridled joy!
