Working on a strategically located island like Singapore, travelling oversea is like a breeze. Recently, my friend and I went on a quick holiday to RWS Genting. We were lucky to find ourselves checking into the NEWLY built tower, Tower 3 of First Hotel. If you have not heard about it, Genting Highlands has recently went through a overhaul! You will be surprised on how much it has changed!
Although our twin room was small, it was cosy and perfectly comfortable for two people. We love how new, well-furnished and modern the room was. And yes, clean bed sheets!!!
The lobby area was spacious and you can even check in with the check-in kiosk. The advancement of technology makes travelling so much easier! Yay to shorter queuing time.
Oh yes, don’t forget to stay around for a couple of minutes to enjoy the fantastic view from hotel lobby. WOW!
Apart from the many eateries within the hotel lobby hall, you can also get a massage at the spa, a haircut at the barber shop or even get your toiletries from Watsons.
For those who prefer to stay a while longer to enjoy the scenery, there is a cool cafeteria at the hotel lobby. This is a perfect place to read a book and chill if you are not into adult gaming. For those who love to shop, don’t forget to visit the brand new Sky Avenue shopping mall. It’s connected to First World Hotel and just a short walk towards the iconic Starbucks. Beside high end shop outlets (Adidas, Austin Reed, Bonia, Calvin Klein, Lazo Diamond, L’occitane En Provence…etc), there are many fine dining restaurants and cafes! Some of the familar names are like Dal.Komm Coffee, Gong Cha, Grandmama’s, Llao Llao, Madam Kwan’s, Morganfield’s, Tampopo…etc
After an hour of exploring, we stopped by Burger & Lobster for lunch. The restaurant boasted a cosy environment which was suitable for couples, family or group gatherings. We ordered the Beef and Lobster Burger, Lobster Roll and Chilli Lobster. And OMG, the food was good.
The beef from the Beef and Lobster Burger was very tender and the charcoal burger was soft and fluffy. Remember to take 1 big bite with all the layers of different ingredient to enjoy this beautiful burger.
The Lobster Roll went in perfect harmony with their special sauce. With the sides such as fries and salad, it was more than enough to feed a small eater!
The Chilli Lobster roll was an interesting dish which tasted similar yet different from our local Chilli Crab dish.
After the heavy lunch, we continued walking around the mall. It was so large and spacious that there were moments that we felt as if we were in one of the mega malls in Singapore. The development of the Genting premises has indeed caught us in a pleasant surprise!
In the afternoon, we went for high tea at Cafes Richard. It was a very classic and cool place which some may say it brings back the good old memory of the 90s. But Cafes Richard had warm and classic decorations which brought the ambience up a notch.
Lovers of coffee, rejoices! Cafes Richard took pride in their special “Slow” Coffee and signature dessert set. There were four types of slow coffee which was prepared on the spot through a meticulous process.
You can choose from French press, chemex, syphon or cold drip. Besides “Slow” Coffee, they also have cocktail and wine. There was also an outdoor section with a quirky and unique design which can be a great place to laze the afternoon away with a cuppa in hand.
After high tea, we continued to explore the mall. Apart from trendy cafes, the mall also has a fair share of traditional stalls.
By 8pm, we were famished from walking around the mall. While we were contemplating our dinner options, the excited kids peeking through the window of Motorino’s live station caught our eyes. The italian restaurant was specialised in pizza and wine that promise to a pizza experience straight out of Naples, home of the world-famous Neapolitan Pizza! So how could we miss the chance to try the pizza here?
We ordered the Amatriciana and the Cherry Stone Clam pizza, which were delicious. We liked how the pizzas were prepared upon order and the crusts of the pizzas were just nice, not too thin nor too thick.
For lovers of protein, don’t miss the roasted chicken wings! They were pretty amazing too.
It certainly was a pleasant getaway, especially with the spectacular view. For those who want to take it further, remember to take the cable car ride when you visit Genting. For RM8, you can enjoy and experience the beauty of Genting from a whole new level.
