1855 The Bottle Shop Wine & Whisky Week

Jingle bells. Jingle bells. Wine and whisky all the way.
It’s hard to survive the holiday season without some drinks. Fortunately for wine & whisky aficionados, lovers, enthusiasts or just plain alcoholics, the 2nd Wine & Whisky Week (WWW) is here for the fix. Hosted this 8 – 13 Nov 2016 at Suntec City Tower 4 East Atrium Level 1 by 1855 The Bottle Shop (1855 TBS) following the smashing debut last July.

This year extravaganza will carry more than 500 labels by over 200 producers, including some of best cult wines & rare whiskies labels such as Chateau-Figeac, Pape Clément, Opus One, Two Hands, Dom Perignon, Yamakazi & Karuizawa, etc. Better yet, attractive discounts of up to 50% will be available for guests to stockpile their carts to their alcoholic desire.
One of the quality wine on offer is the sublime 2014 Chablis by Domain William Fevre. Carrying the trademark minerality of the label, this purest Grand Cru strikes a splendid balance of fresh citrus, white fruits and an almost unoaked finish. A perfect combination of freshness, crispness and elegance befits a joyous company of friends.

Bottle 1855-2

Fans of stronger tastes would be enticed by the Executioner 2013 of Shinas Estate. Like its intriguing name suggests, this powerful blend of Shiraz anz Cabernet Sauvignon with a surprised tinge of Viognier sweeps the palate with a rich yet soft combo of dark berries, mocha and firm oak. To quote its creator, the former Judge George Shinas, the Executioner is “a wine worth dying for yet production is so small it’s a crime punishable by death”.

Bottle 1855-3

On the whisky side, international Juggernaut Kavalan Classic Single Malt Whisky will make its appearance in the event. Voted Gold three years in a row by the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) this complex yet seemingly straightforward spirit goes down smoothly, leaving behind pleasant traces of fresh mango.
My personal favourite is the Douglas Laing Big Peat. Smell like scorched earth, taste like burnt sugar, and finish lingering like a Frank Sinatra ballad, this feisty Islay whisky is the ultimate companionship for the holiday blues, permeating you with smoke and ashes.

Bottle 1855-5

The event also offer fun interactive masterclasses conducted by experts such as Augustin Deschamps, Julien Bonnard, Ray Nadelson and Lewis Mitchell. Offered twice a day on 12 – 13 Nov, these classes will help attendees to pick up more knowledge and insider tips at ticket prices from $28 – $45.
