After coming back for a month plus from the Land of Thousands Smiles, I started to crave for thai food again. Hence, me and J went to check out the The Great Thai Feast at Seasonal Tastes at The Westin.
Together with Seasonal Tastes’ Sous Chef Sedtapat Sukpaisanpongsa, Chef Kamonwan Juntarasert and Chef Sittha Sa-Nguansat, a selection of authentic Thai dishes from Isaan, the northeast region of Thailand, can be found on the buffet spread together with the mainstay items. Yes, you will be delighted to find Thai dishes from street food to perennial favorites!
There are several live stations available on the buffet line. One of them is the ‘live’ Som Tam (Papaya Salad) station, where grilled chili and garlic are first pounded with a motar and pestle and added to fish sauce, dried shrimps, tamarind juice, lime juice and peanuts tossed with julienned green papaya.
This sweet, spicy, salty luscious salad is then paired with your choice of fresh prawns, squid, salted egg and grilled pork neck.
If you are a noodle person, you can also head over to the ‘live’ noodles station to have a bowl of Kanom Jeen, noodles made from fermented rice and then ladled with your choice of green or red curry. Not to forget to pair with a selection of seafood or chicken slices. If not, there is Kuay Teow Nuaa (Beef Noodles) prepared a la minute, with a rich, comforting broth poured over rice noodles and tender beef slices and beef brisket.
Alternatively, you can also head over to the other live station that has Pad Thai (stir-fried rice noodles served with a host of ingredients including prawns, chicken, tofu, peanuts beansprouts, chili flakes, fish sauce and lime juice) stir-fried upon order!
Other highlights would be the housemade spicy Sai Ua (Chiang Mai Sausage); Sai Krok Isaan (Thai Fermented Sausage).
There are so much on the buffet spread that one would need to have a 2 x empty tummy to whack the whole buffet line. I kid you not hor.
Not to forget the dessert buffet line ok. Thai desserts such as Khao Niew Ma Muang (Mango Sticky Rice), with glutinous rice doused with coconut cream syrup and fresh mango slices; Sang Kaya Faktong (Thai Pumpkin Custard) – coconut milk egg custard served atop a slice of sweet cooked pumpkin are served along with the mainstay desserts. Even the all time favourite Cha Yen (Thai Milk Tea), made from black tea infused with condensed milk is on the buffet line!
Last but least, remember to try the gelato here. There are so many toppings for you to choose from!
The Great Thai Feast is available for dinners only from 18 – 31 July 2016, from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Seasonal Tastes, Level 32, at $68++ per person (Sunday to Thursday) and $82++ per person (Friday and Saturday).
