If unwinding over good craft beer on tap with local delights such as char kway tiao and satay is your kind of thing, I have somewhere to introduce to you. Smith Street Taps is a no frills place where you can order your preferred craft beer and just sit around the stall at the tables nearby (if you managed to find a seat) =P
Located at Smith Street Market, it is no coincidence that it is just a few stalls away from the Good Beer Company. It is a collaborative effort between Daniel Goh of The Good Beer Company and Meng Chao of Clementi bottle shop Brewers’ Craft.
With the main aim of making craft beer accessible to the masses without burning a hole in their pockets is how Smith Street Taps was born.
The beers served are of limited quantity for freshness assurance. Once it is sold out, there is no more of it. However fret not, there are always new craft beers introduced every other week. =)
Besides craft beer on taps, we had some bottle beers from Brewer’s Craft as well. These are some of what we had. After several sessions with my beer master, I have also realised that I am an IPA person and enjoy hoppy beer. In the past, I thought that beers were always bitter, at least have some bitter aftertaste. It is a good realisation for me to know that beer is just like wine and coffee, it has more flavours other than just bitterness. It is quite interesting to find fruity or floral notes in beer and I really enjoyed this learning process.
If you are a people person and enjoy chit chatting with the peeps behind Smith Street Taps, rejoice! Daniel and Meng Chao are both friendly and knowledgeable with what they serve. But try not to chit chat with them during busy hours (e.g friday evening) as the unceasing queue can be quite hard to handle if you are hogging in front of the stall. =P
So if you are looking for some quality craft beers at affordable prices to go with your usual hawker fares, do give Smith Street Taps a try. Just a gentle reminder that last order is at 10.30pm =)
P.S: This is at Smith Street Hawker so no air con ah. All the more reason to unwind with casual comfortable outfit. You might have spotted me in shorts & tees on my several visits there =p
