One door closes while another opens. As we are mourning the closure of Sembawang Nature Hot Spring, the long awaited Yunomori Onsen finally opens its doors in Singapore’s Kallang Wave Mall with an area spanning more than 16,000 sqft!!! Much like the Supa Onsens/ Sentos that are scattered around Japan, this promises to be the most authentic public bath experience on this island.
RamenKing2016:
We removed our shoes, placed them in the lockers before stepping into the reception as it is expected in Japan, and not long after we were greeted with comforting pinewood smell amidst the warm lighting.
As I passed through the blue noren for male bathers, the rows of sitting showers were an obvious sight.
And what were even more impressive are the ubiquitous containers of shampoo, body soap and conditioner placed in front of each shower terminal- deja vu; exactly the same configuration like they would have been in Japan. They are great reminders that Yunomori Onsen spares no expenses to details.
There are various hot spring pools with water in different temperatures and textures, as well as a sauna and steamroom. It was soothingly comfortable soaking in the mineral filled spring water, and let the heat slowly heals the body and relaxes the mind. I would highly recommend people to come here after intensive exercises, like from a good gym workout or the rock climbing next door.
Traditionally, Japanese enter the baths in the buff. For the uninitiated however, this naked communal bath experience might be a little intimidating, so the management has also provided an option of disposable underwears.
Anyone could easily spend a day here. At a flat rate of $38 with no time limit, one could rest at the sleeping lounge in a complimentary Yukata and fill the stomach at the in-house cafe before soaking in again!

After we have deposited our footwear in one of the shoes lockers (There are more than 300 of them!), we were given a wristband which we could use to purchase food and drinks, use for treatment, spa services as well as vending machine. Yes, you are right! There is literally no cash needed in the premise!
As we walked down the walkway, it would lead us to the common dining cafe, lounge, massage and spa treatment rooms and the onsen.
Ladies, no worries, there is no common onsen area. The norens of different colours are used to separate between the male and the female onsen areas.
And yes, there are pretty yukatas for us to wear too!
I remembered during one of my holiday trips in Taiwan, I visited the onsen in Beitou and an auntie shared that it is best to enjoy onsen with steam bath or sauna in between the dips. Oh boy, can you imagine how happy I was when I saw that Yunomori has both steambath and sauna?! Not to forget the hot and cool pools as well! It is said that rotating between the hot and cold pools can help to improve the elasticity of our skin! I can forsee myself coming here very often to enjoy the onsen facility especially when it is only $38 per day and there are different pools for different benefits!
At the end of our onsen session, there are vanity tables for us to beautify ourselves as well.
Do not be deceived by this atas looking place, the massage treatments here are very affordable! There are Thai Massage (60 mins $88), Aroma Massage (90 mins $138), Foot Massage 30 mins $38) and you can even add on a Herbal compress treatment (30 mins $38). Best part is there are couple rooms available! Father’s day is coming so if you have no intention to go onsen with your partner or your girlfriends, why not treat your dad to a day of relaxation in Yunomori? Well, at least that is what I thought I would do. My date with daddy love. =)
Just in case you have no idea where Yunomori is, it is located at level 2 opposite where Popeyes is. Nearest MRT is Stadium Station and from now till 13 July, you can stand a chance to win a 6D5N Holiday for 2 to Sydney with every $30 spend at Kallang Wave Mall! Sounds good right? Mai tu liao loh.
