I have watched Avatar movie for numerous times but still feels fascinated by the Na’vi-s and their world of Pandora. Hence, I was a tad disappointed that my schedule didn’t allow me to attend the Avatar: Discover Pandora exhibition, a state-of-the-art interactive exhibition inspired by the James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi film, that was held in Taipei, Taiwan in 2016 and in Bangkok, Thailand last year. Good news, my friends!! Because 2018 is offering us this opportunity again!!!
Avatar: Discover Pandora exhibition is definitely a great opportunity to understand the Na’vi-s better in a 12,000 square foot space. The exhibition has several interactive displays to let one see Pandora as though it is in a real world context. Located at Great China International Exchange Square in Shenzhen, this exhibition can be easily accessed even by taking train. Simply exit at Convention & Exhibition Centre (会展中心) train station and get out at exit A where Sheraton Shenzhen Futian Hotel Hotel (深圳大中华喜来登酒店) is.
On 27 Jan 2018, at Sheraton Futian Hotel, Great China Square, we got to attend the red carpet premiere of the Avatar: Discover Pandora exhibition. Not only did we rubbed shoulders with VIPs from Motion Media Interactive (MMI-Entertainment), GES, FoxNext, Mactus Live and famous celebrities, we got to experience the exhibition as well!
Walking into Pandora is like going into a science centre. Not only can you see different kinds of insects, you get to touch one of them!
Getting up close to the Na’vi-s is definitely not a dream here! You can even compare the size of your hand to the size of the child of the Na’vi.
One also get to learn more about the culture with the display of the musical instruments used by the Na’vi-s, as well as getting to know how does the musical instruments sound at a touch of your fingers.
If you are curious to know which creature of the Pandora fits your personality the most, you can do so by answering a series of questions. Me and Leong got the Fan Lizard, what about you? hahaha.
There are also life-sized Pandora creatures such as Banshee, Direhorse and Viperwolf at the exhibition.
Besides having information of Viperwolf, I like it that there is an X-ray equipment that allows one to see how Viperwolf’s muscles and tissues look like. So cool, isn’t it?
Getting close to the bioluminescent plants and animals of Pandora was definitely interesting for me but the interactive section at the Hallelujah Mountains aka the Floating Mountains which circulate slowly in the magnetic currents like icebergs at sea was one of the most interesting. One got to turn 2 wheels in a certain direction to control the movements of the islands!
Besides learning to speak some basic Na’vi phrase, there are interactive programme such as allowing visitors to fly their own Mountain Banshee by moving their arms and clapping, design a Banshee with a custom color scheme and even learn to operate an AMP suit!
Last but not least, the replica of the Tree of Souls is definitely a good chance to take some lovely pictures but don’t forget to get an avatar of yourself as a Na’vi at the interactive booth besides the Tree of Souls.
Fans of Avatar can also get a piece of Avatar: Discover Pandora Exhibition back at the merchandise booth at the end of the exhibition.
