No matter where I travel to, there is no place like home. This year, Singapore is celebrating its 53rd birthday. To be honest, from a small island without any natural resources, we transformed into one of the world’s wealthiest countries, I think we have came really fast and far. This year’s National Day happens to fall on a weekday but this does not deter anyone of us from celebrating! So here you are, a list of dining promotions that are launched to celebrate this joyous occasion.

Celebrating its first National Day celebration under the aegis of Singaporean chef-owner Jeremmy Chiam, Le Binchotan has launched an elevated local delight supper menu that is available from 9.30pm till 31st Aug with 3 special items. Bubur Chacha ($16) is said to be a “die die must-try” with special Taro-infused vodka to a concoction of coconut and pandan and housemade tapioca jelly chunks. If you are feeling at bit perkish, do not miss the the skewers of springy iberico pork collar ($17) which is inspired by satay! The bite-sized pork are grilled over binchotan after being marinated with gula melaka, garlic, lime, nutmeg and turmeric, they said 2 is hardly enough. Oh yes, Chef Jeremmy’s Hokkien mee ($18), which is served with fresh tiger prawns grilled atop binchotan and fiery sambal belachan made in-house is a must too!

Depending on your personal preference, Marina Mandarin is offering 2 different dinning concepts to woo its diners. Aqua Marine is offering a Singapore Heritage buffet where by you can indulge in our nation’s iconic dishes with a twist. Think of Wagyu Beef Short Rib ‘Satay’, a contemporary version of the traditional satay with tender, marbled cuts of beef marinated in reminiscent satay spices, Marinated Ayam Buah Keluak Shawarma in Lotus Bun using boneless chicken thigh shawarma marinated with buah keluak and Sambal Salmon Fillet, moist Pacific salmon with a shiok shiok housemade sambal sauce on top of a wide variety of international spread! Not forgetting a national favourite dish -Singapore Chilli Crab! There is also an action station whipping out sugarcane juice and durian during the weekend!

Aqua Marine
Fans of Sushi Tei rejoices! Besides launching its Summer Feast which includes Bluefin Tuna, A4 Miyazaki Wagyu and Kagoshima pork, Sushi Tei has curated 3 mouth-watering dishes for its National Day menu which pays homage to our local Singaporean favourites! Nasi Lemak lovers can try the Nasi Lemak Roll ($11.80), an elevated version of our local favourite stuffed with sushi rice, tori karaage, tamago, cucumber and served with a slab of Muar otah and fried baby sardines! Those who can’t live without a spicy punch in their meals can try Black Pepper Soft Shell Crab ($13.80),and Chilli Crab Seafood Croquette ($8.80) which promise a satisfying fiery punch. All in all, this is the kind of local heat that Sushi Tei fans is waiting for.

Yan Dim Sum-30
Dim sum always has a special place in my heart. With Yan introducing an array of bite-sized dishes with Singapore’s well-loved flavours, any resistance is futile. The a la carte Dim Sum menu consisted of 6 different dim sums, from classic steamed xiao long bao in laksa stock (4 pieces for $5.80++) to yummilious steamed pork and mushroom dumpling with chives (3 pieces for $6.80++) to pan-fried buns filled with sweet and spicy chilli crab meat (3 pieces for $9++) and steamed yam cake with mushroom and dried shrimp ($5.80++ per piece), each item is set to whet your appetite while bonding with your loved ones.
P.S: Don’t forget to order the steamed Hainanese chicken with sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf ($4++ per piece) which is a flavoursome and soulful rendition of Singapore’s beloved dish – Hainanese chicken rice.
