Although for the whole of my life I have been living in a concrete jungle, it never fails to amaze me whenever I am here at The Westin Hotel. The hotel offers stunning view which can be enjoyed both at the hotel rooms and the hotel F&B outlets. For Chinese New Year 2016, Seasonal Tastes has included a variety of Chinese New Year dishes on the buffet line to welcome the Year of Golden Monkey.
Located on level 32 of The Westin Hotel, Seasonal Tastes can be easily accessed within 3 minutes walk from the Downtown MRT station.
The restaurant offers a live interactive kitchen concept and a good variety of cuisines, from international to Asian. There is also a station where you can get your dose of deep fried food such as onion rings, sweet potato fries…etc. Though I was sitting near the deep fried food station, I rather impressed with the ventilation, I left Seasonal Tastes smelling as good as before I stepped inside it. =)
Besides the usual sumptuous buffet affair such as cold seafood, sashimi, a selection of cheese (Yay, I spotted some blue cheese, yum yum), hot dishes, salad, laksa station (live live must try, comfort food at its best), for CNY, a section of the buffet line is delicated to the Lunar New Year theme. There is a ‘Live’ dim sum station too!!
One of the highlights is the Mini Buddha Jump Over The Wall which is available only on Lunar New Year’s Eve and limited to 1 bowl per diner. My suggestion is to savor it slowly! The rich savory broth with high quality ingredients was so good that I almost wanted to jump over to the other table to grab another bowl of it (Almost! But I remember to BEHAVE).
Crispy Red Snapper was fresh, moist and encased with a light batter. It was good but the SALTED EGG YOLK sauce that accompanied it was superb. The salted egg yolk crazed bunch of us have even paired it with the shio bak (Roasted Pork Belly).
The Cantonese BBQ Station offers a selection of roasted meats (Roast Pipa Duck, Roast Chicken, Char Siew and Crispy Pork Belly) and a range of condiments (the chicken rice chilli is spicy but on point!). The group of us paired the shio bak with the salted egg yolk sauce from the Crispy Red Snapper dish and had our mind blown away. Why didn’t people think of h
aving serving it this way ah?
There are also other dishes dishes like the Bak Kwa that is made in house, Braised Pork Belly, Taro, Golden Pumpkin Pot (soft and mushy taro, the teochew ah nia in me was delighted!) and Sea Salt Baked Sakura Chicken with wood fungus, wild mushrooms and truffle oil.
Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please leave some space for desserts! Usually, I don’t have much expectation from the desserts on the buffet line. But the desserts table surprised me! Must try the gelato ok, especially the avocado one. Really yum yum. During the festive period, there will be a mixture of local desserts and ang moh (western) desserts.
If you think that is all, it is not lah. The usual buffet line at Seasonal Tastes remains.
Depending on where you are seated, you might also enjoy your dinner with the view of the Singapore Flyer as well.
