As we welcome tomorrow as another new day of the month, we are also greeting goodbye to some F&B outlets. It comes to a shock to me when I got to know on instagram that May May at Tras Street is among one of them.
For people working in the CBD, May May is one of the popular lunch spot serving mainly rice bowls.
As you walked into May May, you will be greeted with a clean minimalist interior deco. I am particularly drawn to the air well where all the seating are located. It made the whole place looks so bright and natural lighting is always the best for photography. hahaha
As there was only 2 of us, me and sihan, we have decided to share on one of the sides,Homemade Tofu ($4). This was indeed the right decision! We love the different textural bites from the terrarium made of the silken homemade tofu, tobiko, braised peanuts, century egg sauce and rice puff crackers. For us, this is one of the highlight during our little catch up session at May May.
There are several popular rice bowls on the menu such as the Butter Poached Cod ($19), Braised Pork Belly ($17) and the Braised Beef ($18). During then, we thought that we can always come back to try the others so we ordered the Braised Beef rice bowl. While we love how tender and flavourful the beef was, we find that the pickled lotus root was not too cohesive to the rest of the items in the bowl. But overall, this is still a very hearty rice bowl to have. We thought it would be great if it is all filled with the braised beef! Yum!
I always have a soft spot for cold noodles. Hence, it was almost no brainer to guess that I ordered the Cold Somen ($16). I love how the noodle was mildly spiced with garlic sriracha. The tobiko and crispy seaweed also give a good crunchy bite to the noodle. This is definitely a highly recommended item!
Although the price tag is not the friendliest in the CBD area but given the food quality, location and service, I think this is definitely one of the option to pamper ourselves with some good food. It is kind of sad that May May has greeted us goodbye. A part of me really hope that our path will cross again in the future. May May, you will be missed. For those who wish to support the people behind May May, you can hop over to The Blue Ginger, located at 97 Tanjong Pagar, to show them some love.
