Five Reasons Why You Should Try Aerial Yoga at least once in your lifetime

I remembered one of the circus performance that left me feeling super in awe was the aerial performance by the world famous Cirque du Soleil. Suspended high up in the air by a silky fabric, the performers danced in the air with such gracefully movement to display how agile and flexible they were. So when the opportunity arise, I jumped into trying out Aerial yoga at the Trium Fitness for the first time of my life. Surprisingly, it was not as scary and difficult as I thought. Stay with me as I share with you why you should try aerial yoga at least once in your lifetime!

1. Not as scary as it looks
What we don’t know always make us feel scare. Do you know that the silk hammock can support over 2,000 pounds which is essentially about 900 kg. So no worries that the hammock will be snapped halfway while you are suspended in the air. It is stronger than it looks! With the professional instructor guiding me patiently, I was able to do all the yoga poses during the first session. If Hannah can do it so can you!

2. A total workout
We all know that exercise is good for the health and different exercise works on different part of our body. So how can aerial yoga helps to improve our health? Doing aerial yoga is like a total workout where almost every parts of the body are forced to move and stretch. Trust me, even my abdominal fats were crying for help days after the class. So you can assure that toned muscles and regenerated joints are on its way if you do aerial yoga often enough.

3. Aid in Digestion
The chance of hanging freely not only helps to increase flexibility, lengthen your spine, strengthen your joints, it improves blood circulation and even helps in digestion. Sounds quite magical, isn’t it?

4. BEAUTY Benefits
Aerial Yoga isn’t just a yoga workout, it has its set of beauty benefits as well! Besides getting a toned body (say goodbye to fats and cellulite), it helps to detoxify circulatory and lymphatic systems! And that’s not all, reversing gravity flushes fresh nutrients and oxygen to the face. Hence, it stimulates the facial capillaries and hair follicles of the scalp, and gives you beauty benefits such as aid in removing visual signs of toxicity (bye acne and pimples), age-defying effects (reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkles and sagging skin) and gives your skin a natural healthy glow (if you do it regularly over a period of time).

5.Promote better sleep
A study conducted by LJ Nose found that EMG activity (a measure of muscle tension) declined by more than 35 percent within 10 seconds of inverting. Muscle tension can contribute to feelings of anxiety as well as insomnia so you can say hello to your lost sleep after the aerial yoga class. Isn’t it a good thing? I suppose this could help to reduce the dark circles as well. hahaha

Although aerial yoga classes can be fun and has a lot of benefits, do consult with your doctor and yoga instructor before trying an aerial class if you are pregnant, suffering from vertigo, cardiovascular diseases, high/low blood pressure or any condition that blocks the nasal passages. And yes, dress comfortably e.g yoga pants paired with half-sleeved cotton tees or tops. Loose or baggy clothing can make it difficult to move and has the potential to get snagged or tangled in the hammock’s mechanisms! haha Try to go on a empty stomach when you go for the class as well. Don’t think you want “MERLION” (puke aka vomit) in the class.
