Besides serving espresso based coffee with locally roasted coffee beans (yay to support local!), filtered coffees are spotted on the menu brewed using V60 or French Press. I like the easy to drink house blend that I had over latte. The little chocolate bar served by the side has also enhanced the chocolatey note from the coffee.
Smashed Avocado, Feta Cheese, Fresh Sprouts and Pomegranate on Toasted Multi-grain Sourdough ($13.90) was both pretty and tasty. That creamy texture of the smashed avocado with a speck of saltiness from the feta cheese married well with the tanginess from the drizzles of balsamic vinegar. I could be a vegetarian any day if you give me something as good as this!
Another new item on the menu that was recommended by the cafe manager was the Pulled Pork, Poached eggs, Roasted nuts, Fresh Sprouts and signature sauce on toasted multigrain sourdough ($16.90). Although the flavours of all the components came together nicely, I couldn’t help but to miss the former dish more. Nevertheless, this is a recommended dish for all the carnivores. The pulled pork was succulent and the signature sauce made using chipotle peppers has given it that extra punch to make this dish even more enjoyable.
We ended with a Churro ($9.90) which was served in a glass on top of a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with Valrhona chocolate sauce. As this churro is first deep fried before it is baked upon order, it has this unique kueh kueh like texture. Not sure about you but I prefer my churro to be airy and crispy thus this is not my kind of churro. Nevertheless, it is one of the more affordable churro served in a dining setting.
I have no regrets to travel from the west to the east. There are more hits than misses. With the passion that I see behind preparing the food and delivering the items on the menu, I believe I can look forward to more new and interesting items coming from this cafe. I am definitely going to visit Craftsmen again whenever I am in the eastern side of Singapore.
