Cafe Hopping: Do.Main Bakery at Tanjong Katong

I have long heard about Do.Main Bakery which is located along the stretch at Katong for its delicious fine bakes. It is the brainchild of French pastry chef Frederic Deshayes, the former Head of Pastry at Sunrice Global Chef Academy. However I was always deterred by the distance of travelling from the west to the east. Thanks to Dilmah “Host a Dilmah Real High Tea” challenge, I was invited to the media tasting for Do.Main Bakery’s High Tea Set. Thus giving me a push factor for this long overdue visit.

The interior of Do.Main Bakery is in a simple yet classy monochrome theme. The kind of deco that made me feel very comfortable and would love to spend the rest of the afternoon reading a book or chillaxing with a cup of tea.
Do.Main Bakery has been quite well known in the area for its daily freshly made artisanal bakes. But unknown to me is that they are also serving savory items as well.
When I first saw the price of the high tea set for 2, I was shocked by how value for money it is. Besides serving an array of sweet & savory items, the set comes with 2 pots of tea!  For savory, there are Mini Wholewheat Croissant with Curry Mayonnaise Chicken Filling, Mushroom Bruschetta and Egg Cocottte with Confit Tomato. While the sweet items are freshly baked Financier, French- style Apple Tart, Cream Puff with Sugar and Almond Nibs, Royal Valrhona Chocolate Textured Cakes and Peanut Caramel “Snickers” Macarons.
Although all of the items are delicious, among the sweet and savoury items, I prefer the sweet ones. All of the items from the sweets won my heart! From the gluten free Royal Valrhona Chocolate Textured Cakes to the freshly baked Financier and Peanut Caramel “Snickers” Macarons, they are really impressive. My favourite amongst them is the cream puffs with orange custard. The sugar and almond nibs on top of the cream puff give it a nice crispy bite while the orange custard gives it a sweet tangy aftertaste. How not to love it, right? What was more beautiful is the lovely aroma from Dilmah’s fine selection Rose with French Vanilla tea. The tea pairing was so good as it complemented with both the savory and sweet items.
For someone like me with sweet tooth, The high tea set for 2 seriously won my heart. On an average of $16 per pax, I think it is very value for money. It is good to know that the high tea set will continue to be a permanent item on the menu. It has always been in Chef Frederic’s mind to create a high tea set due to popular demand from regular customers. Thanks to the Dilmah’s Host a High Tea Challenge, it has became a push factor for Chef Frederic to launch it now. Do give it a try to see if you share the same sentiments as me. Do.Main Bakery I will be back soon!
