Swee Choon has been one of my to go to places for supper since my clubbing days. While I am now feeling too old to go drinking till late night, I am still a fan of the dim sum from this 58-year-old dim sum eatery. Hence, I was elated when I first get to know about Swee Choon’s frozen dim sum series in January 2021.
Recently, Swee Choon has also unveiled four new creations under its frozen dim sum series. What I really like about the frozen dim sum series is there are preparation instructions in both English and Mandarin. So it is easy to prepare delicious dim sum any time of the day at home.

The following are the 4 new items that are launched:
• Mala Siew Mai
• Mala Xiao Long Bao
• Tofu Bomb
• Black Sesame Lava Bao
In the recent years, many people including myself have fell in love with Mala and Swee Choon has introduced Mala Siew Mai which is available in frozen pack of 12 pieces for $16.90 and dine in at $2.80 for 2. Besides retaining the size of Swee Choon’s signature Siew Mai, the minced pork and shrimp are mixed with a mala spices of over 10 different kind of spices and herbs. Hence, it is packed with a gentle heat which spicy food lovers will enjoy. There is also a Mala Xiao Long Bao ( dine-in $5.60/ 4 pcs; 12 pcs per pack/ $19) which is not for the faint-hearted unless you really like something that give you a tongue-numbing spicines.
Tofu Bomb (dine in $3.20/ 2 pcs; Frozen dim sum 6 pcs per pack/ $12.50) is one of the items that really took me by surprise. It looks really harmless but mind you, it has a super spicy chilli hidden within the crispy beancurd skin. While the filling of chopped prawns and minced pork with chives are really juicy and succulent, the unexpected spiciness is bound to set your tongue on fire. lol
Fans of black sesame can also look forward to Black Sesame Lava Ball (dine in $4.50/ 3 pcs) and Black Sesame Lava Bao (frozen dim sum 6 pcs per pack/ S$12.50). Personally I like the flowy black sesame filling as it is nutty and very aromatic. For those who like more textural bite, the Black Sesame Lava Ball is actually a deep-fried chewy glutinous rice ball that is studded with white and black sesame seeds. So you can experience different layers of textures as well as a burst of the sesame seeds aroma.
The new items will be available at both Jalan Besar and Tampines Food Co. outlets as well as via delivery platforms and Oddle. Besides the new items, you can also get some of the signature dim sum as well as all times favourites in frozen pack which are made by hand at Swee Choon’s central kitchen.
