The Lime Truck

A storm had prevented me from visiting Lime Truck in LA earlier this year but this october, nothing could stop me from heading to their first overseas venture at Pasar Bella Suntec. (Well, this time would be a permanent indoor space, no longer be subjected to any rough weather conditions).

Most other things fortunately, will remain the same. The house dip would still be as spicy and like in LA, all the tacos shells and churros are handmade in house, freshly on a daily basis.
I was told by Kyle Henderson, the executive chef at the Singapore outlet that there are also gonna be Singapore exclusives such as the Fried Chicken Skin with Chipotle Honey Drizzle and Cheese rolled out soon (prices unavailable at this moment).
Lime Truck’s tacos has earned them a bevy of accolades including Winner of Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” and Yahoo!’s “Top 10 Trucks in America” 3 years running ever since its founder Iranian American Daniel Shemtob started the business in 2010.

The Legendary Brussel Sprouts ($3.90) was an impressive starter. I would never have imagined the brussel sprouts to be featured in a Taqueria, much less a Taco van. The brussel sprouts were baked in 2 varieties of cheese and mixed with a little peppers. Each bite was endearing and I thought the portion size was good enough to whet the appetite and the vegetables make the truck a little refined and polished than usual.

The Fried Chicky Taco ($4) was a no-brainer. Chicken balls fried, still piping hot and wrapped with pickles and lined with Lime Truck’s spicy sauce. I think I could get used to this. If not for the fact that there are other tacos that I would love to try, I might go for a second round.

The Slow Braised Pork Belly Taco ($4) is undoubtedly the signature of Lime Truck. The meat was thoroughly braised with the sauce, which was sweetened and slightly spiced, nicely softened by the heat. Coloured peppers then filled the rest of the composition.

Both the No #1 Steak Taco ($4.60) and Beef Rib Taco “The Gringo” ($4.50) earned the praises from my fellow diners. It was hard to choose which is better since they were both perfect. I cannot resist a steak on a taco shell, much less one that had a #1 to its namesake. The steak was tender, paired with an unbelievably delicious guacamole and dossed with more fried taco silvers to provide a medley of textures, all in a bite. The “Gringo” likewise was just sheer euphoria. I was beyond words.

The Grilled Barramundi Taco ($4.60) was one thing that I haven’t seen on the LA menu. That I have yet to verify so I am not sure if this is an exclusive item. Anyway not so relevant. The lightly grilled barramundi might not be the most preferred choice for most but it was the most refreshing of the lot. It wouldn’t hurt to include one in your meal.

The Lime Slushie ($1.90) was a desired zesty drink to beat the fiery spice at Lime Truck. It was a little sweet, but at that price point, you don’t need to be an economics major to understand what a sweet deal is.

Also leave some stomach space for their house made Churros ($5.90 cinnamon, $6.90 matcha) to complete the entire Lime Truck experience.
