As the nation celebrates this joyous month of August for our 50 years of Independence, Ellenborough Market Café has launched the Heritage Flavours dinner buffet. Besides showcasing our Little Red Dot’s pioneering traditional cuisine, diners get to enjoy bounteous offering of Fresh Durians and durian-based dishes!!!
Besides the mouthwatering spread at the buffet line, diners get to relish reliving the past as Ellenborough Market Café brings back the quintessential street-food icons of yesteryear. From pick up roasted nuts of the Kacang Puteh station to having a Teh Tarik ‘pulled’ right in front of you to watching a satay grilled by the satayman.
The buffet line also features recipes of golden oldies such as Chicken Feet Kerabu, Achar Awak (Nyonya Pickled Vegetables), Lor Ark (Braised Duck), and Steamed Patin Fish with Nyonya Sauce. As a tribute to Singapore’s multiracial cultures, dishes such as Malay Sayur Lodeh, Indian Mutton Vindaloo and even Eurasian Shepherd’s Pie will share the spotlight at the bountiful buffet spread.
Durian lovers will be thrilled to find The King of Fruits freshly opened in front of them. Mao shan wang, anyone? A variety of durian dishes was also featured at Ellenborough market such as the Durian and Bacon Fried Rice, Durian Crêpes and Durian Crumble from the dessert counter.
My personal favourite was the freshly opened durian and the fried durian that was fried on the spot. 
Besides swinging back to 1960s Singapore and tuck into a parade of popular street-food fare with durian-based signature specialities, diners get to enjoy a delightful spread at the buffet line from cold seafood to a delectable display of dessert. The Heritage Flavours buffet dinner is available from 6 to 23 August to celebrate the joyous occasion of SG50. Do check them out before they are gone. The durian spread has gotten me so so happy as it is really fleshy Mao Shan Wang with that sweet bitterness! For HSBC Cardholders, one gets to dine free with every three paying adult buffet diners.
