Ultherapy procedure at Halley Medical Aesthetics

Previously when I consulted Dr Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics for my concerns with the loss of volume on my face, I have also shared with him how hideous I thought my double chin was when I looked down.

Although many people thought that my double chin concern was almost invalid, Dr Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics acknowledged my concerns. He also shared with me that the looser skin around my chin area being the result of aging, could be easily solved with a skin tightening procedure.

After sharing the differences between the Ultherapy treatment and Thread lift, I decided to go for the Ultherapy treatment which is a non-invasive skin tightening procedure. As compared to Thread lift, where threads are introduced just below the skin to tighten loose skin with almost instantaneous results, Ultherapy takes about 2 to 3 months to show maximum results. The plus point about Ultherapy, however, is that there is no downtime and bruising.

Before the Ultherapy treatment, a generous amount of numbing cream was applied to the area where the treatment would be done. This is to ensure that the procedure would be of as little discomfort as possible.

Before we started, Dr Terence Tan explained how the machine works and what to expect during the procedure.

After the numbing effect from the numbing cream kicked in, Dr Terence Tan slathered my chin area with some gel before starting the treatment.

The Ultherapy procedure is unique from other high intensive focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment in that the Ulthera device allows Dr Terence Tan to see the layers of tissue that he is treating. This ensures precise administration of the ultrasound energy to the treated area at exactly 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm underneath the skin. This triggers our skin’s superficial muscular aponeurotic system or SMAS layer to generate collagen, thus lifting our skin.

Although I have heard that Ultherapy procedure can be very painful, I found it to be very tolerable with occasional heat/ pinprick sensation at some areas which are more boney. The sensation only lasts when the ultrasound energy is being delivered. There was also a cooler blowing cool air at the treated area to make this a more bearable experience. In fact, Dr Terence Tan and I were chit chatting about everything under the sun as my double chin area was undergoing its farewell journey.

To be honest, Ultherapy is definitely not the most comfortable treatment that I have done. Although my chin area felt a bit sore for the first 2 weeks after the treatment, I was pleased to have as sharper chin with my double chin being less visible after 1 month. Seriously can’t wait to see the full result of Ultherapy in another 2 months time!
