Restaurant Spiced Mala Hotpot 香辣辣麻辣香锅 in Bukit Indah

As some of you who might know that I am currently going to Shou Slimming Centre at Novena on a regular basis to maintain my figure and lose some weight in the process. According to the consultants at Shou Slimming Centre, Mala Xiang Guo aka Mala Hotpot is one of the most sinful food to eat, ever.
I have also did a cross check on myfitnesspal.com and the calories for half bowl of mala hotpot is actually 460!! But this does not ease my constant craving for it. lol. The other day, I just stumbled upon a very decent one at Bukit Indah in Johore Bahru named Restaurant Spiced Mala Hotpot and the selection was one of the biggest that I have seen so far!

Besides having free wifi, Restaurant Spiced Mala Hotpot is also air conditioned! I thought these are some of the basic things that Singaporean diners look for when we dine in Malaysia. So it was very thoughtful to have them both. On top of that, although the deco is simple, the ambiance of the restaurant is clean and comfortable.

Besides having a good variety of vegetables, J said she was impressed by the staple choices (udon, instant noodles, vermicelli, tapioca noodles) available. As for me, I like it that there are quail eggs, daikon, beancurd skin and tau pok (tofu puff) and an array of seafood and mushrooms! Meat lovers, not to worry, there are luncheon meat, chicken, pork, beef and even mutton available for you too.

Best of all, you can customise the Mala Hotpot according to the level of spiciness that you prefer.

There are also other items available on the menu as well. As I have overordered for my Mala Hotpot, I have made a mental note to be back to try the other items next time.

When the Mala Hotpot arrived, I was given a dagger stare by J for the amount of food I ordered for 2 pax. Besides chinese cabbage, I have ordered 2 kinds of mushrooms, chicken, pork, taupok, black fungus, daikon, quail eggs and tapioca noodles. The bowl was twice the size of my face and in the end we only managed to finish 3/4 of it. But at least I didn’t waste food ok.

Not to forget to get some homemade herbal tea or iced ai yu to ease the heat. We have ordered mid spicy and enjoyed the level of spiciness a lot. Do note that, J is a chilli padi lover who can’t live without chilli padi in every of her meal. So mid spicy might be a little bit overwhelming for those who don’t take any spicy food. But for both of us, we like how aromatic the hotpot is without giving us an overpowering numbness.

Overall, we spent $48.50 ringgit ($15.50 SGD) and this is inclusive of 1 bowl of rice, 1 iced ai yu and 1 herbal tea. I thought this is quite value for money after considering the conversion rate and this is one of the better mala hotpot that I have tasted so far. I would definitely go back again if I am around Bukit Indah area. Oh yes, there are many massage parlours around. Perhaps I can go for massage and then Mala hotpot after that. =)
