Along the same stretch of shophouses where Ah Seah Eating House (Teochew Porridge) and King Laksa Steamboat are, a new Thai eatery has just recently opened its door. The name Yaowarat has a meaning of young king. However, as Yaowarat road is located at the center of Bangkok’s Chinatown, the word “Yaowarat” has came to be commonly known as “Chinatown” to many people. Thus essentially Yaowarat Seafood means Chinatown Seafood. 😉
As I entered the shop, it is déjà_vu of being transported to Bangkok Chinatown. Taken over from the former Tandoor Curry Club, with a fresh coat of painting, addition of chinese red lanterns and pictures of bangkok chinatown, looks nothing like the former and has this thai chinese eatery feel.
I ordered my standard order of lemongrass drink ($3) despite knowing that the sugar syrup is premixed into the drink. Much to my expectation, it came too sweet for my liking. However, for people with sweet tooth, this might be a refreshing and cooling drink for the killer weather these days.

Pad Thai ($6) |
JF ordered a Pad Thai and I have tried some. The taste is quite unique, nothing similar to what I tried before. Nevertheless, JF thinks it is edible.
 |
Stir Fried Vermicelli ($6) |
I ordered stir-fried vermicelli and it tasted quite similar to the ones I had in Thailand. Jf and I enjoyed this more than the Pad Thai.
 |
Basil Pork Rice ($6) |
This is the best amongst the 3 dishes that we have ordered. Authentic flavours that is mildly spicy and value for money.
 |
Coconut Ice cream ($6) |
With the scorching hot weather these day, this is definitely a good choice of dessert. The coconut cream is creamy and yet does not have the packed coconut milk taste. My dinner ended in a sweet note with these babies served with the scrapped coconut flesh, crushed peanuts and corn kennels.
It is good to know that there is no GST or service charge here. On top of that, the service here is fast, attentive and good. Seriously, I do not mind coming back here again as the pricing is quite easy to the pocket. 😉
