Food Review: Thai in Town @ Upper Thomson Road

Thai In Town is the new kid along the same stretch as Udders Ice Cream, Salted Caramel at Upper Thomson road. After seeing some raves on Instagram, I decided to give this a try before heading for my favourite froyo, Beegurt.

The interior is simple and spacious with tables made from concrete cement. Just like the concept of bringing thai street food to the table, the deco reminded me of Thailand and its simple eateries.
I ordered a lemongrass drink ($3.20) while  J ordered a pepsi ($3). The lemongrass drink is homemade but the sugar level is premixed. However, it is not too sweet and has a very distinct lemongrass aroma. *Thumbs up*
We ordered Khao Ka Moo aka braised pig’strotter with rice($8.90) and Rice Vermicelli Tom Yum ($7.90) to share. We like the Khao Ka Moo a lot as it tastes authentic and reminded us of the delicious pig’s trotter rice that we had in Bangkok. However the rice vermicelli tom yum did not fare as well as the pig’s trotter. I did not like the strong rice vermicelli taste which overpowered the tom yum flavour. Perhaps it is best to stay with the original kway teow tom yum than to request to change it to rice vermicelli.
For dessert, we ordered Khao Niao Ma Muang aka mango sticky rice ($5.90). The glutinous rice is cooked just right and matched perfectly with the sweet riped mango and coconut milk. Looking at the price tag, this is definitely a sweet lovely dish to end a meal.
There are more hits than misses during my visit. Overall, I was happy with the food served as it is affordable and the place is also air conditioned. A big bonus for the recent hot weather. The service was also very attentive. I requested for more tom yum soup as the tom yum soup was quickly soaked up by rice vermicelli and the service crew gladly gave me some. I see myself going back to try other dishes on the menu.
