Cafe Hopping: The New Black Concept Outlet @ Boat Quay

With the Third Wave Movement, The New Black is one of the cafes that has recently opened its door in the CBD area last year. But as compare to others, this is definitely one of the more interesting cafe around.

Beside bringing in coffee bean from some famous roasters such as Verve Coffee Roasters from Santa Cruz in the United States, Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. from Washington, Small Batch Roasters from Melbourne and Tim Wendelboe from Oslo, Norway, The New Black also serves coffee from our local roaster, Nylon Coffee Roaster.
There is an ipad for you to pick your coffee using their taste wheel, which categorizes the different taste profiles of coffee and the prices start at $5.50. There are also brewed tea, coffee cherry tea, iced teas and croissants ($3 each), supplied by B.A.O. (Bakery Artisan Original) by French pastry chef Christophe Grilo, available.

Coffee brewing here is very different many other cafes. The coffee beans are first packed into small containers and grinded only upon the order.

In place of espresso machines that we have seen in most cafes, the Modbar coffee system for the espresso based coffee and the Steampunk Machine for filtered coffee, which are imported from United States, are used here that allows us to see how our coffee is being brewed. Personally I am very amazed, I felt as if I am watching a science experiment of coffee concoction.

The coffee are then served in takeaway cups with beautiful bright coffee.

There are also some concrete seating available for people who like to people watching or just chillax with a cup of coffee.
Basically the New Black is a cafe with coffee beans from several famous roasters, clean and futuristic renovation and a great place for people watching. Something unique as compare to other cafes. Please also note that this is a cashless cafe, so all payments are made with card. 😉
