Most would naturally associate Tsuta with ramen and nothing else but following the footsteps of other ramen chefs like Keisuke San, Chef Yuki Onishi is venturing into new territories.

Last Friday the world’s first new non ramen Tsuta store was unveiled at 313 Somerset. Some of the dishes which I thought were uniformly good were the Salted Egg Roll ($16.80), Avocado Ebi Roll ($16.80), Mango Ebi Roll Wagyu Beef Roll ($21.80), Wagyu Beef Don ($19.80), Fries (from $2.80) and Seafood Okonomiyaki ($16.80). The plates here were meant to be playful and at a price point accessible to many, so in that spirit some supporters of the original Tsuta might decry this as non authentic. But nevertheless Chef Yuki Onishi had spent hours on R&D, remotely creating from scratch the menu from his native Tokyo laboratory to entice the Singaporean tastebuds. If not A for taste, then at least A for effort and innovation.
