36 hours in Mandalay

If there is one thing that I would do differently during my recent Myanmar trip, it would be to stay longer. But here is it, 36 hours in Mandalay. I have included how to get there, the places of interests as well as the accommodation and where did I had my meals.

As the last royal capital of Myanmar, Mandalay is about 700 km north of Yangon. There are several ways to get to Mandalay from Yangon – 60 minute flight with one of the domestic carriers, train or bus. I took an overnight sleeper bus with Highway Express (will share more in details soon)at Aung Mingalar Highway bus station which cost me $40,000 Kyat (est. $36 SGD).

After about 9 hours, we arrived in Mandalay chan Mya Shwe Pyi Bus Station. Oh yes, the floor at the bus station are all rocky dirt ground, so I think a backpack would be better than a trolley luggage. Also do prepare a mask as it might get rather dusty. Although we were just in time for breakfast but we have decided to check in to Golden Hotel Mandalay instead to freshen up and rest before our sight seeing. Aging is real. I can no longer do overnight ride without feeling tired!!!!

We have chose Golden Hotel Mandalay as we would prefer a more quiet hotel rather than one that is near to the city. Besides the usual amenities and standard toiletries, they have complimentary cup noodles too. Great for people like me who likes to have processed food as supper if I have any late night hunger bangs. hahahaha

After a short rest, we headed out for an early lunch before we start exploring Mandalay. Yes, when in Manadalay eat like a local. Naw from Mogok Ikan Travel brought me to this really delicious roadside stall which sells Mandalay Mee Shay aka Mandalay Pork Noodles. Although you can find Mee Shay else where but it is said that this popular Burmese rice noodles in Mandalay has a bit more toppings compare to the anothers.
