The Holqa Cafe – where passion links people up

There are no lack of cafes in Singapore but how often do you find a quaint cafe that is run by passionate youngsters who are still studying? Mind you, they are young but the food served is definitely not sub-standard. Located along the stretch at Katong, this cafe is often missed by people due to the lack of a prominent frontage. However if you look close enough, it is just located very near to a bus stop.

As you enter the cafe, you will be greeted by interesting small corners decorated by the owners. From vintage clocks to the vintage collection of cameras placed along the walls are all dedicated efforts put in by the owners to make this a cosy little hideout.
Cucumber Berries Tea ($6)

To fight Singapore’s sweltering weather, young lady boss, Simple, came out with a few iced quenchers recipes. The cucumber berries tea is both refreshing and perfect for Singapore weather.

Almost Carbonara ($14.90)

Instead of the usual carbonara which is more dense and rich, Almost Carbonara is Holqa’s take on carbonara. What you will be expecting is a plate of soupy pasta with generous serving of shitake mushroom and bacon. The texture of the pasta sauce is made intentionally to be less dense and more watery. Nevertheless it’s still a plate of satisfying comfort food.

Braised Asian Pulled Pork with 3 Cheese Sandwich ($15.90)
If there is one dish you must order at Holqa, this is it. The pork jowl is braised for hours with asian spices thus resulting a very juicy, tender and moist pulled pork. It is then laid on top of a slice of buttery brioche and topped with gruyere, mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Give me this any time any day to make me a happy gal!
SnS-Ji ($9.90 -6pcs)

Korean inspired SnS-Ji is made from scratch, from the batter to the sauce. What you will be expecting is crispy mid joints with honey-like spicy sweet sauce. Mind you, this is addictive and better than many Korean fried chicken!

Monkey Funkey Toast ($10.90)
What is life without dessert? I am not a banana lover and I shunned from having anything that has banana in the dish. However, the components on the plate are really good. I like how smooth and nutty the homemade peanut butter is and how soft and buttery the thick toast is. The vanilla ice cream was light and complements well with the toast and peanut butter.
If you looking for a no frills cosy cafe to enjoy the afternoon, do check out the Holqa cafe. It may seem to be like an ordinary cafe but the passion behind is admirable. Not only did the young couple constantly try to improve, they also place huge importance on customer service.
With that, they are constantly coming out with new promotions to thank their customers for the support they have garnered since their opening. Check out their facebook for more promotions and updates. If you are around the vicinity today, do drop by to redeem their signature mid joint wings with every 2 main courses ordered.
