Located near Outram Park MRT station exit H is where this relatively new cafe is. Named after American president Theodore Roosevelt, it is a café by day and diner by night. I was very blessed that Derrick has invited me to join him on a food tasting at Roosevelt’s Diner & Bar
Roosevelt’s has adopted modern interior deco concept and the high ceiling make the place looks very spacious and comfortable. Personally I feel that it can be a very good place to laze the afternoon away with a cup of coffee while people watching.
We have Jalapeno Bacon Mac & Cheese ($11) to kick start the evening. While I love the crunchiness of breadcrumb on top of the mac & cheese, I would really like it to be more cheesy.
To be frank, this is the first time I tried a Truffle Snapper Pie ($19). Imo it’s rather interesting and the aroma of the truffle was rather intense when the dish was served. However i would prefer it to be less watery.
Teddy’s Classic Bacon Cheese Burger ($20) was the highlight of the night. I love the fact that the beef patty is very moist and well flavoured. Together with the soft bun, it was a perfect combi. Do note that serving portion here is relatively huge and I think it is good for 2 to share if you are a small eater.
One of Roosevelt’s signature is Southern Fried Chicken ($18) and I can see why is it so (Pardon me for the bad quality of picture taken from my S4). The chicken was marinated in milk overnight to give it a more tender and soft texture. On top of that, the deep fried batter is relatively fragrant and crispy.
We ended the night with Apple Forest Berries Crumble ($8). Although I was very full by then, like I always said there is always space for desserts! Something interesting about the apple crumble here is that there is granola mixed with the crumble. However I find this a little too sweet for my liking. Well, food is a very subjective thing. Maybe you might like it if you have sweet tooth.
Beside serving food, Roosevelt’s also serves a variety of milkshakes. I was recommended to try Malted Vanilla Bean Milkshake ($8). Personally I like the smooth texture of the milkshake without being too heavy with the taste of the milk. If you like horlick, you will love this. ^^
Overall I think that there are some hit and miss with the food here. However as they are relatively new, I feel that a little bit of fine tunning on the flavour of the food, it will in no time become a hit hip cafe around Chinatown area. Yes, I will visit this place again as I am a sucker for beautifully decorated eateries and I would love to try their brunch menu. Haha.. Who don’t like brunch, right?
