Quan Lai Kway Chap 泉来粿汁 At Macpherson Road

It has been a long while since I last had some kway chap so since I was near Macpherson Road the other day, I have decided to revisit Quan Lai Kway Chap. I used to come here for their duck rice rather than Kway Chap. But it was a rainy day so Kway Chap seem more comforting and inviting. Hahah. Ya, they do not have nice brown table, I did a takeway as it was so crowded the other day with no parking available in the open space carpark beside it.

We ordered a kwap chap set for 2 with braised pig skin and fried intestine braised pig skin. The bill came up to be $32. A tad expensive in my opinion but Quan Lai Kway Chap is known to be one of the more expensive place for kwap Chap in Singapore. I reckon once in a while is ok but the partner in crime was nagging about the price. lol

I am a fan of fried intestine but this is a tricky dish. If the intestine is not clean properly and thoroughly, it will have a gamey taste which in opinion is very unpleasant. However, the ones at Quan Lai Kway Chap is fried to a nice crispy exterior with the interior still moist and chewy. I like that there are a few slices of pineapple at the side of the fried intestine to cut though the oiliness and make it even more enjoyable.

I am very particular about the rice sheets aka the kwap in the kwap chap as I have eaten really terrible ones before which reeked of uncooked and stale rice. Hence, I was really happy that the rice sheets at Quan Lai Kway Chap tasted clean and smooth with slight hint of herbal notes from the broth that they were swimming in.

While we have paid $16 for 2 for the braised platter, it was a generous portion with basically everything you would like to eat with kway chap such as braised duck meat, pig intestines, pork belly, taupok, fishcake, and egg. I have also added braised pig skin which I didnt really enjoyed as it was not as soft and tender as how I would like it. But I do enjoyed the tau pok which soaked up the delicious gravy and the homemade fishcake that was so qq and boing boing.
