Pho Street @ Westgate, enjoying the Vietnamese street delight with nofrill

Originated from Hanoi (Northern Vietnam), Pho is considered the national dish of Vietnam. It reflects the Vietnamese heritage all the way back to the late 1880s. To me, Pho is a comfort food to have, especially during rainy days. We were blessed to be invited to Pho Street for a media tasting about 2 weeks ago to try some dishes available from the new menu. It is a no frills restaurant which aims to serve authentic Vietnamese street food to people from all walks of life.

We started with some refreshing Lemon Cooler with Peppermint & Basil and PassionFruit & Basil Mojito. Both are priced at a reasonable price of $3.50 with heaps of fresh mint leaves added.
Vietnamese Snack Platter ($8.90)

At $8.90, you can enjoy crispy fried pork rolls, roasted chicken skewers and vietnamese crabcakes. I like the portioning of the dishes and I think this platter is good for at least 2 persons to share.

Fresh Summer Rolls with Prawn, Pork Belly & Fresh Herbs ($4.90)

Besides Vietnamese Snack Platter, you can also also find other authentic Vietnamese snacks such as the fresh summer rolls. The rice paper used for the summer rolls are imported from Vietnam and wrapped with other fresh ingredients. I like how refreshing this dish is and how well it goes with the sweet sauce at the side.

Crispy Fried Chicken Mid-wings served with Caramelised Sweet Dip ($4.90)
Sesame Rice crackers with Fragrant Minced Meat and Spices Dip ($6.90)

This is one of the highlights for me. The minced meat and spices dip is flavourful while the imported sesame crackers are addictive. You can either enjoy the crackers together with the minced meat or like me, I prefer to have it disconstructed. The minced pork reminds me of the Thai basil minced pork. I almost wanted to order a bowl of rice to go with it.

Pho Beef Combination ($9.90)

With the flavorful stock, this is my kind of comfort food any time any day. The serving of beef balls, beef slices, beef shanks, beef tendons and beef tripe are generous and guaranteed to fill one up. My only cringe is the beef is slightly too cooked for my liking. However I am someone who likes my beef to be more bloody. Thus for peeps like me, perhaps it will be good if you make it a point to ask for your beef to be cooked slightly more rare.

Dry Rice Vermicelli with Roasted Pork Chop & Spring Roll ($8.90)

For peeps who like dry version of the vermicelli, Dry Rice Vermicelli with Roasted Pork Chop & Spring Roll is available. The meat is well marinated and again this is another hearty dish to order. 😉

Roasted Pork Chop with Fragrant Rice ($7.90)
Personally I like the flavours of the roasted pork chop and if you are a rice person, do give this a try.
Banh Mi Combination ($6.90)
A Vietnamese meal is never complete without a Banh Mi. The Banh Mi is packed with pork belly, grilled beef and chicken ham. It is good to know that the chicken ham is imported from Vietnam. If you like the flavours of luncheon meat, you will be surprised to find similar flavour spotted in the chicken ham.
Cream of Mung Bean with Coconut Sauce & Crushed Peanut ($3.50)

We ended the tasting with this Vietnamese dessert. This is my first time having this dessert. It is rather interesting with familar ingredients such as coconut milk and crushed peanut. Definitely a pleaser and a good alternative for hot weather.
