Food Review – Yellow Submarine @ Toa Payoh (Halal)

After passing by Yellow Submarines several times in both Bugis and Toa Payoh, I suggested to my ex-collegues to check out this place in Toa Payoh.

Adopting the eatery concept similar to other fast-food eateries, everything is very much self-service, from ordering of food all the way up to the collection of food. After deciding what to have, we ordered at the cashier before finding a table to settle ourselves down.
Yellow submarines adopted vibrant yellow colour theme which makes the eatery looks bright, fun and cheerful.  The yellow cheese looking like false wall somehow reminds me of Tom & Jerry.
We were given a number on the receipt to wait for our number to be displayed on a digital box while our food is being prepared. However the waiting time is relatively short.
I ordered a chic (Chicken) submarine set ($9.90) which comes with a Torpedo fries (ala-carte $3)and a soft drink while my colleague ordered the yellow submarine classic (Beef). Thus I have the best of the both world of trying out both their signature (cheesesteak sandwiches) after exchanging our submarines.
Both the submarines have cheese, similar to nacho cheese but slightly diluted version, oozing out of the long bread bun. Thus like all burgers, it’s a bit of a mess to eat it. With caramelized onions, the submarines taste really flavourful. While the classic submarine is using sliced beef, the chic submarine is using chicken chunks. Personally I like the chicken submarine better as it has more texture although both the meat are well-seasoned.
Overall, it is a good alternative to the usual fast food outlets. On top of that, the serving is generous and can be shared among 2 ladies if a set meal is ordered.
