A Note of Spice Food Trail: 1 Market x O’nya Sayang x Warung Kampung

Located at Plaza Singapura Atrium, 1 Market is a Halal certified buffet restaurant in Singapore by a celebrity chef, Chef Wan. Besides serving a spread of Southeast Asian cuisine, in the month of March, Chef Wan will be featuring a special Nyonya Fair with recipes passed down from his grandmother.

One of the featured dish is Nyonya Laksa. There is a station whereby you can customise the toppings that you would like to have.
Black Pepper Crayfish is a well liked dish for the group around the table. We went for at least 2 rounds of it. 🙂
Maybe I was spoilt by the convenience of having Cordon Bleu bakery near my house, I am least impressed by the dessert section. However, the spread at 1 market is relatively huge, from Japanese fare to familar local dishes such as satay, rojak and chilli crab.
Just like any F&B establishments that offers buffet line, there are hits and misses. However the 450 seater restaurant offers an alternative for our Muslim friends and huge group dining.

With the opening of Paya Lebar Square, more choices of food are now made available for the peeps working there. One of the F&B outlet newly opened is O’nya Sayang, which means love of a Peranakan mother. Founder Zan Ho is the third generation of a peranakan family and many dishes here are cooked following recipes handed down from his grandmother.
Assam Fish ($16.90)
Babi Pongteh ($13.90)
Lor Bak Noodles Set ($12.90)
Ayam Keluak Fried Rice Set ($14.90)
Peranakan food is made affordable here with set meals going at reasonable prices. One of my favourite is the Ayam Keluak Fried Rice, which is flavourful and goes well with the Ayam Buah Keluak, achar and belachan chilli. The portion for the set meal is good for sharing especially for people with smaller appetites.
Chendol ($4.90)
Chendol Ice Cream ($5.90)

The dessert served won many of our hearts. With ingredients such as gula melaka and coconut ice cream specially imported from overseas, you can be sure of the quality. One of my favourite is the chendol ice cream which is so apt for the current scorching weather. A modern twist from chendol. The coconut ice cream is smooth, not too sweet and I like the fact it does not have the taste from the packed coconut milk.

This is a new addition to The Central basement which is operated by Singaporean hubby and Medan wife team. A simple local concept of “curry rice” is adopted here. All the food are cooked by the hubby who learnt from his Medan friend.

Customers can either order individual dishes (vegetable/egg balado/begedil – $1.50; bbq chicken/chicken rendang – $3; seafood/beef rendang -$3.50) or order a set which comes with a choice of meat, 2 vegetables and rice.
Overall, food is decent and reasonably priced. Definitely a no frills place whereby most of us would get to enjoy our food in an air-conditioned place.
