This is one of the year that I have the most number of Lou Hei even before Chinese New Year is here (not that I am complaining, I love lou hei!). This is most likely the last Yusheng of the year before we usher into the Year of the Fire Monkey.
Ellenborough Market Cafe has been known for its wide selection of both international and peranankan food. Besides introducing an array of dishes that is available only during the Chinese New Year period (1st February – 14th February 2016 ), the media were treated to feast on the buffet line. And I have also summarises the dishes to look out for this Chinese New Year at Ellenborough Market Café. Kueh Pie Tee
No meal at Ellenborough Market Café is complete without trying the DIY Kueh Pie Tee. Add any amount of the ingredients to the Kueh Pie Tee cups according to your liking, how lovely is that!Braised Fish Maw Soup with CrabMeat
Nope, this is not sharkfin soup but a fellow blogger commented that it tasted as good as any bowl of sharkfin soup (minus the sharkfin). Fish maw is very good for our complexion, okies? Fish maw is an excellent source of collagen. Imagine doink doink skin. =) Braised Sea Cucumber with Broccoli
Sea cucumber is another good source of collagen and yes, this is also free flow on the buffet line! Yay!Stir-fried Australian Scallops with Snow Peas, Lily Bulbs in XO Sauce
Besides having an auspicious meaning of richness and abundance, the XO sauce did its wonder to the dish and brings out the sweetness of the scallops. Boy, aren’t you glad that it is free flow on the buffet line?Champagne Pork Ribs
For those who are familiar with Tze Char, this is like an elevated version of pai gu wang (排骨王). With the meat being tender and soft, it is very hard to find any fault with it. Baby Lobster in Black Bean Sauce
One of my friend’s strategy to eat any buffet is to “attack” all the more expensive dishes on the buffet line. Yes, this is definitely not to be missed to make your every cent paid worth while. “Chang Shou” La Mian
While I like how springy (QQ) the handmade la mian (noodles) was, the idea of having noodle with a peanuty broth just doesn’t sit well for me. But for “Chang Shou” (longevity) and symbolic meaning behind it, eat some la. Nian Gau with Fresh Desiccated Coconut | Sweetened Yam Dumpling | Durian Pengat
Like I always said, no meal is complete without desserts. Soar towards greater heights with the rice cakes (年糕) and have a 甜甜蜜蜜 (sweet and lovely) year ahead with the sweetened yam dumpling. One would not want to miss the signature durian pengat from Ellenborough Market Cafe unless you hated durian. =)
P.S: Exact presentation might be different as photograph taken was how the dessert was presented to us as an individual tasting portion.
