Bejewelled Christmas by the Bay Christmas Buffet at STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar

Located just a stone throw away from HarbourFront MRT, STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar is launching a seafood stubbed buffet for this festive season too. Among the list of mocktails on the menu, the Ais Serai aka homemade lemongrass tea and iced lychee tea stood out amongst the rest. If you prefer something light and refreshing you can give iced lychee tea or the lemongrass tea a try. For people who like carbonated drinks, the soda gembira is a like an elavated version of iced bandung with soda. =D
St50bejeweledbythebay-9For starters, we had the Salmon Carpaccio with Coriander & Pine Nut Vinaigrette. While salmon sashimi is commonly seen in the buffet line, salmon carpaccio is a breath of fresh air to the otherwise boring item. I like how the acidity from the pine nut vinaigrette cut through the oiliness of the salmon carpaccio and complemented the entire dish.
St50bejeweledbythebay-11One of my favorites of the night is the Smoked Oyster & Crab Cake. I was expecting a slight fishiness from the smoked oyster. Instead, it added sweetness to the crab cake. With a crispy exterior that encased the succulent crab fillings, it is hard to stop at only one. Good news is this is on the festive buffet line, so grab a few more and eat my share too ok!
St50bejeweledbythebay-14Alaska crab has met with a culinary twist! Black Pepper Alaska Crab Claws with Gingko Nuts is like an atas version of our local black pepper crab. The only thing is I don’t really understand is the usage of Gingko Nuts as it seems to be out of place in the dish. lol
St50bejeweledbythebay-16We were taught to add a sprinkle of salt to enhance the taste for Bay Scallop with Warm Tomato Essence. However, I find the tomato essence somehow killed the natural flavors of the scallop. I would be a happy gal if they can skip the tomato essence and give me the scallop with a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
St50bejeweledbythebay-17Seafood Paella was much like a galore of seafood over some mushy yellowish rice. Definitely not my favourite dish as it is somehow lacking the oomph. Perhaps using a thicker and richer broth to cook the paella might just bring it up a notch or two.
St50bejeweledbythebay-19To be frank, I am not a huge fan of dishes with breast meat. Although the idea of Tandoori Turkey Breast seems to add a lot more flavours to the breast meat, I was left feeling disappointed with the tough and dry turkey breast. It was quite a pity as the seasoning and marination of the turkey breast was done perfectly.
St50bejeweledbythebay-23A meal without desserts is like getting out of the house without wearing your shoes. Somehow it is never complete. I am so glad that the dinner ended well with Crepe Suzette with Mandarin Orange. The thinly cooked pancake was served in the caramelized sauce and the acidity from the the mandarin orange complemented the rest of the components. Having this dessert somehow brought back some warm fuzzy fond memories of how my grandma used to peel the orange peel and pith for me. So ya, this is the kind of desserts that I would be glad to eat more even when I am super full. lol
